Torn apart by the stormy winds blowing,

The great clouds blood-red now appear;

A vers megírása Időpontjának megállapításában támpontul szolgál az a tény, hogy Forbáth Londonban Panasz és remény címmel 1942-ben megjelent kötetében nem szerepel. Márpedig, ha ekkor már megírta volna, semmi sem indokolná, miért hagyta ki a kötetből. így megírása az 1943—44-es évekre tehető. Ezt a feltételezést az akkori időkre jellemző, aktuális mondanivalója is alátámaszja. Az Emigráns dalával együtt előkerült még néhány eddig kiadatlan vers, de róluk csak alaposabb elemzés alapján és kutatás eredményeként állapítható meg, hogy az angliai emigráció idejéből, esetleg még a korábbi évekből valók-e. A hagyaték feltárásával azonban mindenképpen bebizonyosodott, hogy Forbáth Imre az utolsó 22—23 évében nem írt verseket, s hogy költői pályája ez egy vers kivételével 1938 végétől valóban lezártnak tekinthető.

Sokakat foglalkoztat a talány, mi lehetett Forbáth Imre viszonylag korai elhallgatásának oka. A megfejtéshez számos érv kínálkozik, s a probléma leegyszerűsítéséhez vezetne ezek közül bármelyiket is a többiek rovására előtérbe helyezni. Az okok felderítése során a kutatás első reflexe analógiák keresése, s ez esetben tolakodőan kínálkozik Rimbaud példája. Erőltetett az analógia? A mű s az azt kigyöngyöző teremtés
