54 Az első haza küldött üdvözlőlapok a Varga Alberttel a Barbizon közelében fekvő fontainebleau-i kastély műemlékeihez tett kirándulásaikat örökítik meg. A környék apró településeit járva lelkesen számolt be élményeiről az őt mindvégig támogató testvérbátyjának: „ most voltam én Varga Bercivel Monet egy szép kies falucskájában, nincs messze Barbizontól, biciklivel még két óra alatt sem fáradságos, mert a sima aszfalton csak úgy repülünk. Különösen a templom volt igen nagyon érdekes, fantasztikus álomba ringató fehér falakkal..."** A barbizoni táj eleinte korántsem az erdő, hanem inkább a fényjárta, széles horizontú mezők színein keresztül bontakozik ki számára. A szállásuktól távoli erdő helyett főként a macherin-i kertvégek, a kis települést о környező mezők szénaboglyáit festi (Barbizon/ táj, 1924; Barbizon, 1925).

59 / Vajon mit ígért a barbizoni erdő Paál László eme utódjának, aki kezében egy rongyosra olvasott Dante-kötettel érkezett ide? Paizs Goebel, amint lehetősége nyílt rá, egész nap az erdőt járta. A barbizoni erdőben sejtelmes, borongó árnyak, kidőlt, korhadó fatörzsek, göcsörtös ágak várták, melyekről tanulmányrajzok en 1925, par l'entremise de Béla Lázár, une exposition sur László Paál. Ce fut une très bonne idée de partir passer l'été à Barbizon, où les grandes traditions de cet endroit et la beauté de la nature élèvent tout autant l'âme. »" / Paizs Goebel passa un an et demi à Paris et dans ses environs, de juin 1924 à décembre 1925. Conformément à sa conception artistique et à son impulsion, il rechercha en premier lieu l'environnement d'alors de László Paál. C'est cet attachement que commémore un dessin exécuté au fusain de l'atelier de Barbizon de Paál, et qui fut publié dans la monographie écrite par Béla Lázár en 1929 (Atelier de Barbizon de László Paál, 7925)

Les premières cartes qu'il envoya au pays immortalisent les excursions qu'il accomplit en compagnie d'Albert Varga dans les monuments historiques du château de Fontainebleau situé non loin de Barbizon. En se rendant dans les petites agglomérations des environs, il fit un compte rendu des événements à son frère aîné sur le soutien duquel il avait toujours pu compter: « ... j'étais à l'instant avec Berci Varga dans un ravissant petit hameau de Monet, pas loin de Barbizon, à deux heures en bicyclette sans même se fatiguer car c'est comme si nous avions volé sur l'asphalte plat. L'église surtout était tout à fait intéressante, avec ses murs blancs qui endorment d'un sommeil fantastique... »

55 Le paysage de Barbizon fut loin de se révéler d'abord à ses yeux par la that Paizs Goebel's French studies took place at the same time as the László Paál exhibition organized by Béla Lázár in the Ernst Museum in 1925. Elek Petrovics foretold a promising future to his protégé in a friendly letter not long after Paizs Goebel's departure: '1 am convinced that your stay in France will be beneficial to your artistic development in every respect. Your enthusiasm and great devotion will find abundant inspiration and sustenance there since all of the best things that created the art of the nineteenth century, not to mention the great monuments of older times, are there. It was a good idea to travel to Barbizon for the summer, where both the great traditions of the place and the beauty of nature elevate the spirit.'

} Paizs Goebel spent one and a half years in and around Paris from June 1924 to December 1925. In accordance with his artistic approach and intention, he visited László Paál's erstwhile surroundings. The charcoal drawing of Paál's Barbizon studio, which was made in recollection of this affection, was published in Béla Lázár's 1929 monograph László Paál's Barbizon Studio 1925.

53 In the first months after his arrival, he rented a studio in Macherin-par-Barbizon together with Ernő Jeges and Albert Varga.

54 The first postcards sent home recorded his excursions with Albert Varga to the monuments of the Fontainebleau castle near Barbizon. He wrote enthusiastically to his brother, who had been supporting him all along, about his experiences in the small villages there: 7 was just now in a beautifully picturesque village of Monet's with Berci Varga.
