April 18, 1962 PAGE 5 William Penn Branch 132, South Bend, Indiana, is making ^arrangements for its “First Annual District Bowling Tournament.” Branch officers and members of the Bowling Tournament Committee are shown looking over the tournament entry forms and otherwise planning one of the most enjoyable sport and social events in the history of this long active branch. Seated, left to right, are Mrs. Dolores Kovach, John L. Horvath, Branch President; Regional Manager Frank J. Wukovits, Chairman Mrs. Rose Freshley, Tournament Secretary; Mrs. Patricia Criswell, Harry Delinski, and standing, Paul Frankel, John Bodnar, District Manager Frank T. Wiltrout, Emil Toth, John Pécsi, John Taller. The tournament has the enthusiastic support of all the members of Branch 132 and, naturally, is eagerly awaited by the bowlers. It is scheduled to begin Saturday, April 28, and will be held at the William Penn Lanes, South Bend. Running four consecutive week ends, the tourney will conclude Saturday, May 19, with a dinner-dance given by the branch. During the banquet the winners will be awarded trophies donated by the Branch, which also unanimously voted a $500 cash donation towards the Tournament Prize Fund. It is pretty certain that the First Annual District Bowling Tournament of Branch 132 will be of major benefit to the Branch 132 bowlers participating at the 19th Annual National William Penn Bowling Tournament in Columbus, Ohio on June 2-3. Featured entertainers will be Mercedes Buday, Buffalo, New York concert singer, formerly of Budapest Hungary, and Tony Mara (Antal Martinovics), Hungarian refugee harpist who has been playing at the Penn- Sheraton Hotel in Pittsburgh for the past three years. The Hungarian Room Committee is led by Dr. Samuel C. Gomory, its Chairman for many years who is Medical Director of the William Penn Fraternal Association. Dr. Gomory’s cultural presentations are always received with enthusiasm and enjoy much success, and the audiences are in large part persons who belong to the William Penn. MERCEDES BUDAY TONY MARA THEIR DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY Few among the married reach their fiftieth wedding anniversary; fewer live to observe their sixtieth or diamond anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Steinmetz, members of Branch 525, Los Angeles, California, are a religious couple who, when recently celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary, gave thanks to God for His divine favor bestowed on them — the joy and privilege of being together as husband and wife for so many years. The Steinmetzes were married on January 28, 1902 in Hungary and came to this country in 1922. They have four children, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild,altogether 5 generations of Steinmetzes. Although they have been living in California for years, Mr. and Mrs. Steinmetz still have nostalgic memories of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where they lived and had many friends, and were charter and active members of former Branch 104 in the Quaker City. Our congratulations and best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Steinmetz, 60th anniversary couple. PHILADELPHIA BALL The recent “Gala Ball” of the Philadelphia branch of the American Hungarian Federation was tremendously successful with approximately nine hundred guests participating in the program. Attracting considerable attention at the ball was a huge bust of Franz Liszt, 19th century world-famous Hungarian pianist and composer, the the work of sculptor Ferenc Varga who together with his wife received the ovation of the assemblage. Also present at the affair was William Penn President Julius Macker, who greatly admires works of art. Above, left to right, are: Anthony Noel, president of Branch 76, Philadelphia; Mr. Macker; Stephen Szemes Jr., Branch 76 financial secretary; and Bela Bachkai. Preparing for District Tournament
