Our Dinner-Dance on Thanksgiving- Eve was a grand success. Mrs. Tosha certainly outdid herself on the din­ner and ’she and her kitchen staff deserve a big vote of thanks. The food was delicious. Everyone left the table with those supremely satisfied looks that bespeaks of good eating, and quite a few took home platefuls of the flaky Hungarian pastries we enjoy so much. -v About ir.O people attended the dance. Our Director from Dayton, Louis Vassy, and his charming wife Margaret were present. Mrs. Vassy is a delightful conversationalist and we enjoyed her company much. Also present were Mr. and Mrs. Dave Caspar from Canton, Ohio; Steve Barany, Branch Manager from Akron, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. William Buck from Sebring, Ohio; Mr. Buck is the president of our William Penn Bowling League. Mary Horvath brought a large de­legation from Canfield, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Horvath are the owners of Hor­vath’s Restaurant located on Route G2 between Salem and Canfield. She is affectionately known as "Mother”' Horvath, is well-known throughout the area for her excellent cuisine. Our local Directors were all hav­ing a good time. Those of you who never seen our President John Ba­rany dance a jitter-bug are really missing something. He is simply amazing. Our teen-agers could take lessons from him! Not only can he dance — but bowl too! He came through with a big 602-247 last week. Johnny says modestly but loudly, “My first 600”! I must mention our many refugee friends who came to the dance. Sev­eral were from Youngstown, the rest from Alliance. Mr. and Mrs. Sándor Jakso, surely are experts at dancing the csárdás. It was a pleasure to watch them. Quite a few of the men were young, single and unattached. Girls, here’s your chance! We were espe­cially taken with those who kiss the hand, continental style . . . Perfectly charming gentlemen! Last but not least, we want to say that Lou Si kora and his orchestra really lived up to our fondest expec­tations. His music made the whole evening one big rosy glow. Manv thanks to our local Directors for this fine dinner-dance. Let’s have another real soon. The William Penn Club was the scene of a wedding reception recent­ly. The lucky bridegroom, Tom Schaeffer comes from a William Penn family (the Harry Schaeffers). His bride, the former Patricia Peter­son, is a lovely girl and made a per­fectly beautiful bride. We hope to add her to our membership in the very near future. We wish them both a long and happy life. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Mason are leav­ing soon to spend the Holiday Season in Florida. I'll bet Daisy will come home with a beautiful tan to set off that pretty blond hair. Have fun, you two. Leno Pisoni is off for a winter va­cation too, deer hunting no less. Leno is going back home to his beloved hills of Pennsylvania to hunt with boyhood pals and, if the joys of re­union won’t be too many, we expect to eat venison when he gets back. Zoltán Cibula and bis wife Cathe­rine are the proud parents of then­­first baby — a sweet girl. Cibula comes from Youngstown and is look­ing- for a new home in Alliance. Mike Duruttya is at home con­valescing from major surgery. He is looking exceptionally well these days. We wish him continued good health and good luck. Branch manager Michael Simo re­ports several new members. We wholeheartedly and enthusiastically welcome them to the fold. They'are: Don A. Stratton, W. E. Mason, Ha­rold L. Wellman, Ruth Ann Miller, Samuel J. Lathman, George E. Mis­­kelly, and George J. Wilson. To you new members we extend a welcom > hand and a heart full of brotherly love and fraternalism. We w-ant to see you often, especially at the re­gular meetings and at our social func­tions. ..The William Penn is now your home to use and to enjoy. Congratulations. At their last meeting the Hun­garian Woman’s Club donated $5.00 to the Muscular Dystrophy March and $10.00 to the Community Fund. Mrs. Steve Korosy was named chairman for the annual Christmas Party the Women’s Club enjoys. The party is set for December 14 when members will highlight this affair with a chicken supper and a gift exchange .The president, Mrs. Louis Tosha, urges all our members to at­tend the January 11 meeting when the election of officers will take place. Don’t fail to bring your youngsters to the Annual Children’s Christmas Party on Saturday, December 21, at 7:00 P. M. We will present a pro­gram of fun, Christmas music and refreshments. Santa Claus will be (here with gifts for the kiddies. The William Penn Athletic Club­­met December’ 1 at 3 o’clock at the club rooms. Loy Ream was reelected president and Bill Raszcik vice-pre­sident. Bob Mason is again the club’s secretary-treasurer. This trio really have the Club’s interest at heart and are doing an excellent job. The Club will give away two baskets filled to the brim with turkey and all the trimmings to a couple of needy families. How won­derful to spread Christmas cheer and brotherly love in this fashion. Loy Ream reminds us that the Club is sponsoring a benefit to buy jackets for the Willliam Penn Ath­letic Club Class G. Champions’ Baseball Team. Tickets are still available. A donation of 25 cents will give you one ticket, or 5 tickets for $1.00. At the Children’s Christmas Party three lucky people will walk off with one 17 inch portable T. V., one small three-speed twin speaker phonograph, and one small three­­speed phono-radio combination. Three cheers for our William Penn Ath­letic Club! The William Penn Bowling League had some high bowlers at the Chris­topher Columbus Alleys. William Biggs rolled a 638 with a 242 single game; Jim Bair had a 604 - 223 game; Paul Buttermore, Sr. rolled a 568 - 258; Frank Balog and Gene Mason had a 546; H. Sams bad a 599; Nick Albu a 594 - 216. The wo­men aren’t to be outdone either with Ruth A. Miller firing a 478 - 192 and June Barnes a 476 - 186. Bunt’s Educational Institute, af­filiated with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, on November 22. Rosine was awarded a certificate in Phy­sical Therapy along with 12 other students. She is excellent in this field and it’s almost fun txi have a back­ache with Rosine around .On Decem­ber 2, she assumed her new duties as Assistant Physical Therapist at the Barberton Citizen's Hospital in Barberton, Ohio. Good Luck, Roe! Don’t forget our Gala New Year’s Eve Party. There will be dancing, free noisemakers and party hats. You will be served sauerkraut, and sausage — not jus-t any sausage — but Mike’s FAMOUS home-made sausage as only our Mr. Buzogány can make it. Come join in the fun. Alliance Has Spoken Hungarian Family Reunited Thankgiving was literally all that it stands for when the family ani relatives of Charles Kovács were re­united that day at their residence. 26 Seaman Street, New Brunswick, New Jersey. Mr. Kovac-s, a former Hungarian Army officer who came to this country 10 years ago, was a very happy man as he and eight members of his family sat down to Thanks­giving dinner together for the first time. The family circle has been swelled by three new arrivals this year, who are a grandchild, Kovács’ mother­­in-law, Mrs. Mary Skultethy, and her son, Ede (Edward) Skultethy. The grandchild is six month old Kathleen Szőke. Mrs. Skultethy, 75, came here from Hungary about two months ago. Ede arrived in January after escap­ing into Austria following the Octo­ber 1956 Hungarian revolution. The Kovács family and relatives owe their gradual reunion largely to the efforts of Anthony Kovács, bro­ther of Charles Kovács, and to Peter Biro & Sons Travel Agency. Mr. and Mrs. Kovács now own their home, are proud American ci­tizens, and they and their family are all members of Branch 52-V, New Brunswick, New Jersey. Irene Judith Baron Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Baron of 104 Spruce Street, Byron, announce the engagement of their daughter, Irene Judith, to John Joseph Zmarzlak, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Zmarzlak of 46 Dyke Lane, Stamford, Connecticut. Miss Baron is a graduate of Green­wich High School and is employed in the office of the TJ.S. Knitwear Company. Her fiance is a graduate of the J. M. Wright Technical Insti­tute of Stamford and served four years with the U.S. Navy. He is with the Pimpinella Construction Company in Stamford. A Line From L. A. by ERNEST F. FINTOR District Manager The annual branch election of of­ficers, scheduled for December 15th at the “Magyar Ház,” will have been held by the time the December English WILLIAM PENN reaches cur members. The results will be published next month. One week later, at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday December 22d, Branch 525-V will hold its first annual Christmas party for the children. The affair will be held at the American Legion Hall, Post 549, 1600 West Century Blvd., corner of Denker Ave., Los Angeles. There will be presents for all the children, also games, refresh­ments and door prizes. There’s a lot of fun for all at children’s parties, so don't miss this one. The new office is completely set up now for the benefit and convenience of the members. A call to PLeasant 8-2105 will bring a happy response from your district managers. If you have an insurance need or inquiry, this office is at your beck and call. Our sympathies are extended to the family of Daniel Rob who passed away November 19th at Desert Hot Springs. The deceased had come to California from Dearborn, Michigan. A great big welcome into this world to Robert William Merk born November 13th at Daniel Freeman Hospital. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Merk of 4130 W. 175th PI., Torrance, California. Our congra­tulations to the proud parents.
