To start the bowling season off, a corn roast was held after bowling on Sunday, September 16th. The purpose of the affair was to acquaint the new bowlers with the old ones. Unfortunately, however, the new bowlers did not cooperate by failing to attend. The affair was held on the lawn of Steve Üveges’ home and everything went along smoothly. Everyone who attended had a very enjoyable time. On Sunday, September 23d, our bowling league was host to the bowlers from Branch 39-V, Beaver Falls, Pa. There were two men’is and two women’s teams from both branches participating. The results of the match appear elsewhere in this issue. After bowling, the guests were served lunch and refreshments in the dining room of the branch home where a very nice time was enjoyed by all. The bowlers from Branch 39-V were real sports and it was a pleasure to bowl with them. A nicer group could not be found! A return match was set for November 17th at Beaver Falls. The bowling league is sponsoring euchre parties every Thursday night at the branch home. The time is g:90 P.M. All members and their guests are cordially invited. The bowling league will hold a halloween dance on Saturday, October 27th. in the ball room at the branch home. Prizes for the prettiest, the funniest and the most original costumes will be given. BRANCH MEETINGS .Members are reminded that the regular branch meetings are held the second Sunday of every month at 3:00 P.M. With the end of year not far away, some thought must be given to' the election of branch officers which will take place at the December meeting. This year we shall attempt to make nominations for officers at the November branch meeting. It is therefore important that the November meeting be well attended so that a complete slate of officers can be nominated. The election will take place by ballot at the December meeting. The membership is urged to make it a point to attend both the November and the December meetings. Any member who can not attend the November meeting for nominations may submit a statement to the secretary, stating that he or she is willing to accept a nomination for a particular office, or for any of. fice. This is an excellent opportunity for a member ,who is really interested in the organization, to take an active part in our branch affairs. Let us try to make the November and December meeting attendance a record. Remember, the meetings are held EVERY SECOND SUNDAY OF every month! * * * Belated congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. William Yanosh on the birth of their son, George Charles, on July 23d ... SOMOGYI JOHN SABO National Treasurer National Auditor CERTIFICATE OF AUDIT (Continued from page 1) The members of the Auditing Committee were able to check first-hand the accuracy of the items listed above, and the Committee found the extensions and computations correct. Furthermore, all the papers dealing with many of the items listed were obtained together with ledgers and books of account and verification was obtained to our entire satisfaction. There was considerable time devoted to the examination of the disbursements made by our Association in the various departments, such as general, sick benefit, commissions and salaries, dividends, loans and trust fund, death benefit claims, investment expenses, sports, official publication, advertising and other miscellaneous expenses. In the examination of these items, each individual check disbursed was accounted for; furthermore, supporting papers and vouchers were carefully1 scrutinized for each and every item. No discrepancy was found in the issuance of any check, and no violation of any of our bylaws was noted in the payment of any check. The Auditing Committee was witness first-hand the partic ipation of our Association in an educational television broadcast from Station WQED in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Our Committee highly commends our Association for such participation and believes it very desirable to further such means of publicity and good will. The Auditing Committee noted the higher expenses of the past six months brought about because of the recent merger of our Societies, modernization of our offices, the purchasing of new equipment, the increase in the work load, and feel that these expenses will now be sharply curtailed and reduced. The Committee was pleased to note the improvement in the investment portfolio, and feels reassured that same will be handled with proper care and foresight for the benefit of our Association. We commenced our examination on September 24, 1956 and completed it on October 6, 1956. AUDITING COMMITTEE GÁSPÁR PAPP ANDREW BANDY FRANK FÖLDI WILLIAM C. KOHUT ALBERT B. MARK Í THE FLOOD CITY NEWS ! I s I BRANCH 8-V JOHNSTOWN, PA. | S5iani»aRMitlBMgBraMBffi8!jCBi!gE»BW»^^ The William Penn Bowling League of Branch 8-V and Branch 138-R of Johnstown began its activities several weeks ago, Saturday September 22, 1956, at 7:00 P.M. with 26 members present. The election of officers for this coming season was held at the Capital Bowling Center located in the business section .corner of Franklin and Vine-Streets in Johnstown, Penna. In order, they are: Michael Duray, President; Ronald Boroski, Vice President: Tony Karwoski, Secretary; and Mr. Henry Bachik, Treasurer. Michael Duray and Mrs. Michael Faczan were elected to represent the league at the District Bowling Council. Six teams were formed with 2 men and 2 wojnen on each team, and six alleys resounded as the balls began to roll. Among the spectators was our able president of Branch 8-V, Stephen Lengyel. It was a pleasure to see him. Last year Johnstown sent two men’s and one women’s team to the National Bowling Tournament which was held in Buffalo, N.Y. Out of this Johnstown brought back its share, as the Cement Finishing Company of Branch 8-V took second place laurels in the Five Man team event, with Michael Havrilla, captain, leading the way followed by Henry Bachik, co-captain, Julius Petrusha, Jim Micklos and Joseph Madarasz, Jr. Next day again Johnstown proved itself by taking first place laurels in the Two Man event with Emery Boroski and Charles Nagy. This coming year Johnstown will probably be represented by at least 5 teams at the William Penn National Bowling Tournament in Dayton, Ohio. We hope so since we are members of this great organization, the William Penn Fraternal Association. We of the Bowling League would like to have in our midst more members from 138-R, also from the outlying districts of Johnstown. For advice on joining, please get in touch with Mrs. Michael Faczan, or Stephen Petruska, manager of Branch 8-V. Join now. Don’t wait. Fraternally, STEVE PETRUSKA, Jr. Vice Pres, and Br. Mgr.
