Former residents of Bellevue, Pennsylvania, they have been living for the past five years in Silver Spring, Maryland. They have a daughter, son-in-law, and a granddaughter. Mr. Zsuffovszky is a retired Bell Telephone employee. The Zsuffovszkys are long-standing members of our association and are affiliated with Branch 262-V, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Congratulations to Mr. .and Mrs. Zsuffovszky on their golden wedding. Verhovay Watchtower By JOSEPH J. HORVATH — Cleveland, Ohio na ■■mi ii mi •■■■■.■ mmmmmmi The latter part of September is the end of summer and the beginning of fall; also the end of daylight saving time, for which I am thankful because I simply can not get used to •fast time. Try to convince your system that it is daylight saving time. I have heard many complaints about this arbitrary method of “conserving” day light. Election day will be Tuesday. November 6, 1956. BE SURE TO VOTE! This is one of your greatest privileges as free American citizens. There are many William . Penn members trying for office. I am •writing here of the Ohio candidates, especially those of Cleveland. Branch 14-V (member Governor Frank J. Lausche is running for the United States Senate. As you probably know, the Governor has held his present office now five times. He receives votes over all the State of Ohio, attesting to his popularity. Remember him this coming election. Branch 14-V Judge Joseph Stearns, outstanding in the municipal courts of Cleveland, is now seeking elevation to the common pleas bench. All members in Cuyahoga County may vote for the Judge. Branch 14-V Joseph J. Horvath, your columnist, is ending his first term as State Representative and desirous of returning to that office. Here, in part, has been the political record of Joseph J. Horvath: He sponsored thirteen bills in the house, six of which became law ... member of the House Labor and Insurance Committees ... voted favorably on labor legislature in committee and on the floor of the house... did same for other good bills such as the Credit Union Bill, Pension Bill... voted for the increase in compensation qn both bills, first, the Work-JOSEPH J. HORVATH men Compensation from $32.00 to $40.25 a week (increased benefits in all brackets for the workmen); second, voted to increase Unemployment Benefit from $30.00 to $33.00 a week (after the $50.00 a week failed) ... has been in favor of many other bills beneficial to the people of Cuyahoga County ... Your support and that of your acquaintances and friends on behalf of Representative Horvath is humbly solicited by this scribe. Frank R. Pokomy, who was nominated at the recent primaries, is seeking election on November 6th. He has a wide understanding of the compensation laws. Julius J. Petrash, State Senator, is seeking his second term. He is a member of the Senate Health, Liquor and Banking Committees and has an excellent labor record. Judge Julius Kovachy, Branch 366- V member, is seeking reelection to the Court of Appeals. This gentleman too has a splendid record. He has no one opposing him. Congratulations. Leonard F. Fuerst, our County Clerk, is one of our better county officials. He has modernized his office and the public is getting excellent service. He deserves reelection. Mary- Bodnar, one of our members is a deputy county clerk in Fuerst’s office. Mary K. Sotak, councilwoman of the 29th ward, Cleveland, wants to become a member of the Cleveland Transit Board. The Mayor of Cleveland, Anthony Celebrezze, a Branch 14-V member, could make his best) appointment by recommending Mary K. Sotak for a place on the board. She would add a new understanding, from a woman’s point of view, to the problems of transportation. Mary is a member of Branch 361-V. The Sports Club picnic was well attended. There was plenty to eat and to drink. Frank and Helen Oravis were there with their many services .. . Oscar Federau had a private clam bake... Sandy and Melvina Hegedűs had gone to Defiance, Ohio ... president Ted Beres and his wife Frances were there with their two -sons ... Patty Oravis was also there. She’s about 5 years old and getting prettier day by day... Others were John Beres of Branch 366-V, Mrs. Joseph Bodnar, etc ... We saw Louie Torda on Labor Day at Geauga Lake Park... Tony and Ann Pinter vacationed in Florida instead of Mexico, •but they did visit Cuba for two days. They took in all the honky-tonks, Chinatown, rum and perfume manufactories, reporting that banana rum is the favorite drink in Cuba. They brought back a couple of gifts for Yours Truly. THANKS. How about an all-star team to go to Dayton to William Penn’s 1957 bowling tourney? Bela Balogh, Jake Jacobs, Al Ganim, Louis Városi, Steve Barry, Joseph A. Kadar, Joseph Semetko, Zolié and Steve Szabó, Gene Toth, Frank Oravis, and others. Let’s think about it. There is a wealth of talent here, actually enough for a couple of teams. Act now! St. John’s Greek Catholic Sick Benefit Society’s grape festival was held Sunday, September 23d and the attendance was large. Joseph M. Toth was general chairman of the event. Chief cook was Mrs. Stephen Szabó. We saw many William Penn members, among them Mr. and Mrs. Bela Kastan, Betty Knapp, Louis Torda, Andy Bakos, John Simko, Frank Szappanos, Louis Tárcái, Joseph Szalay and his grandson. Ah, another improvement at the Cleveland William Penn home. The outer doors were painted. Now, bring the office downstairs! We regret to inform our readers of the death of Professor Joseph Remenyi of Western Reserve University. He became ill at class, was taken to a local hospital where he died. Our condolences to his family. I know that if each and every William Penn member in Cuyahoga County, Ohio — the dear women especially — tells a few friends, or calls them on the telephone, about backing me with votes, then I shall be most happy to report in our next issue of the WILLIAM PENN that I, Joseph J. Horvath, was, thanks to you, reelected State Representative. Ex animo, JOSEPH J. HORVATH c.o.
