Branch News Members and friends of Branch 89 log some time at the practice green in preparation for the branch's annual golf outing held recently in conjunction with the Steel Valley Rotary Club. Branch 34 Pittsburgh, PA by Marguerite McNelis What a rainy summer! Hope next summer will be nicer. Keeping my fingers crossed. Let's hope fall will bring us nice weather, and this winter won't be as bad as last year's. School is back in session. Parents can hopefully relax a little. Congratulations to our scholarship recipients. Take advantage of these school years because they will shape your future. Also, remember the William Penn Association and its generosity. When someone helps you, "pay it forward." Please, if you are able, make a donation to our future scholarship recipients. Please take a moment and pray for all our service men and women, especially those in harm's way. Please remember when you see a veteran thank them for their service because they paid for our freedom. We had a great turnout at the Kennsington Golf Club in Canfield, Ohio. Boy, what a hot day that was! My brother Gary and nephew Bob won prizes. Way to go, guys! Sorry Andy and I couldn't stay for the meal or congratulate the winners due to our Cape Cod road trip. The food was delicious, we were told. Hope everyone enjoyed themselves and will spread the word and be back golfing next year. Thank you, Home Office employees, for all your help. The Hungarian Heritage Experience was a success again this year. It certainly is a great fraternal activity. A special thank you to all the attendees, the great teachers and the cooks! Köszönöm Szépen! Our branch made a donation to the Rainbow Kitchen, our local community food bank. Special birthday wishes go out to Valerie McNelis, Nicole Healy, Gabriella Medina and everyone celebrating a birthday this month. If you have any news you would like to share, please contact Marguerite McNelis at 412-421-6031. Branch 89 Homestead, PA by Mark S. Maskarinec Lisa S. Toth-Maskarinec What a day! Our golf outing, held in conjunction with the Steel Valley Rotary Club, was another great success. We were happily surprised to Branch 89 Vice President Mark Maskarinec stands next to the sign noting the hole he and his wife Lisa sponsored in memory of his niece's mother-in-law, Sharon. see 108 golfers turn out on a bright, sunny Sunday at Butler's Golf Course in Elizabeth, Pa. Our day started off with a hot breakfast with choices off the menuno buffet for our group. That was followed by wings, compliments of Buffalo Wild Wings. After registering, golfers purchased Mulligans, 50/50 raffle tickets and tickets for the always outstanding Chinese auction. This year, the total value of our Chinese auction prizes was over $3,000, all of it donated by our branch members and members and golfers of the Steel Valley Rotary. True fratemalism if there ever was. A huge surprise occurred during the golf banquet when Branch President John Toth was presented the WPA Branch 89 Distinguished Service Award. Presenting the award to Johnny was Branch Vice President Mark Maskarinec, accompanied by two surprise guests and friends of Johnny who said they could not miss this event: former Vice Chair of the WPA Board William J. Bero and former National Vice President- Fraternal Endre Csornán. What a true sign of friendship to have both in attendance. Since the death of our branch's former president, Johnny has not only stepped up and tried to fill those big shoes but also served as WILLIAM PENN LIFE 0 September 2018 0 21
