Branch News Members of Youngstown's Hungarian dance group entertained guests attending the 92nd Annual Magyar Nap hosted Aug. 5 by the Youngstown American Hungarian Federation. Branch 27 _______Toledo, OH_______ by Paula Bodnar I hope everyone had a great summer and Labor Day. It's hard to believe that summer is over. I am sorry that I have missed a few months of articles, but I was very busy taking care of my husband David. He was battling kidney cancer for over a year. He lost the battle on July 9.1 would like to thank everyone for all the prayers and kind words you spoke to me. It's time for our branch meetings to resume. Please join us on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 1:00 p.m. at American Table. All members are welcome to attend. We will be making plans for the Christmas party. Again this year, we will be collecting canned goods and personal hygiene items for the food pantry. There was talk before we took our summer break about going to a Walleye hockey game after the new year. Anyone interested in attending a game please contact Irene at 419- 349-7316 or Lisa at 419-367-8117. If anyone has any questions, please contact me at 419-460-7214 and leave me a message. I will get back to you as soon as possible. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH by Kathy Novak I hope everyone who attended the WPA Golf Tournament enjoyed the Youngstown area. I just wish the temperature would have been a little cooler. Thank you to the WPA officers and staff for handling all the fine details for this event. There was an added treat for those attending the Bethlen Communities' annual picnic on July 29: the Kodály Ensemble from Canada danced on the outdoor stage, while the WPA Magyar Folk Dancers performed for residents inside. There were many WPA members in attendance at this picnic, including National Directors David Kozak, Joyce Nicholson and Kathy Novak. Joining them were Alexis Kozak, Harry Nicholson and Sándor Tollas. The Youngstown American Hungarian Federation hosted its 92nd annual Magyar Nap on Aug. 5. A very nice crowd was on hand to enjoy delicious homemade Hungarian food while listening to Hungarian music. The Youngstown Hungarian dance group performed under the direction of Paula Horvath. It has been so nice seeing so many people attending the Hungarian events throughout the tri-state area. It was a particular pleasure to see Jonathan Naser, chair of the Hungarian Room Committee at the University of Pittsburgh, along with his mother Joann and sister Liz, at the Lake County Captains game and the Bethlen Communities picnic. There have been many visitors to the Youngstown area lately. The Schauer family had the pleasure of hosting their son Frank and grandchildren Rachael and Jerry, who were visiting from Florida. Irene Nemeth enjoyed sharing her summer with her great-granddaughter, who was visiting her from Virginia for several months. Also traveling back to the Youngstown area was Irene Devlin, the daughter of Irene Nemeth, who also is from Virginia. Congratulations to all the WPA scholarship recipients. The future is in your hands. We're looking forward to sharing reports on the Birmingham Ethnic Festival in Toledo and the great WPA Picnic in next month's magazine. It's always a bit of a letdown when September rolls around: school starts, vacation time ends, fewer festivals are held. But, there are still some events to look forward to. Among them is the Slavic Fest in Johnstown, Pa., a chicken paprikas dinner at Holy Apostle Parish in Youngstown, and the annual International Film Fest of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, to be held the first week of October. Get well wishes go out to Pat Purton, Alice Nagy, Irene Devlin, Shelley Toth, Margie Sams, Steve Tkach, Caroline Lanzara, Ernie Sarosi, Arlene Csornán and John Torma. Special wishes to everyone celebrating a birthday or anniversary this month. We extend our sincere sympathy to those who recently experienced the loss of a loved one.
