Branch News Branch 51 join hands against hunger Members of Branch 51 Passaic, N.J., took part in the Join Hands Against Hunger campaign on March 12. The day began with Mass for deceased members of the branch at St. Stephen’s parish. Afterwards, bags of canned food, cereal, pasta, juices, rice, beans, food store gift cards, personal hygiene products and a variety of other foods were collected. These items will be donated to local families in need through the Wayne Interfaith Network Food Pantry. The WIN Food Pantry was founded after the devastating Passaic River flood of 1984 and has been helping families in need for over 30 years. Thank you to all Branch 51 members who helped make the food drive a success again this year. We've been having typical Ohio weather — one day in the 60s or 70s and the next day in the 20s or 30s. Hope we get the spring temperatures back and keep them. Important days for this month are: April 1 - April Fools Day; April 9 - Palm Sunday; April 14 - Good Friday; April 16 - Easter; and April 28 - Arbor Day. The WPA Bowling Tournament is on April 28 and 29 in Washington, Pa. This is a great fraternal event, and we would like to see you there. Come and see old friends and make new ones. Don't forget that the mailing date for applying for a WPA Scholarship grant is Wednesday, May 31 for all eligible applicants. This date applies to both new and renewing applicants. This is a very good program to help with college expenses. The WPA Tour of Hungary will take place Sept. 6 to 22 this year. If you are thinking about going, don't forget the reservation deadline is April 24. On Sunday, April 9, there will be a Soup and Learn Program sponsored by the Hungarian Cultural Association at the Hungarian Reformed Church, located at 365 Woodrow Ave. in Columbus after the 10:00 a.m. service. Soup will be served at approximately 11:15 a.m. with the program beginning at 11:45 a.m. We congratulate all those celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and additions to their families. Get well wishes go to all who have been ill or hospitalized. Hope all have a speedy recovery. We also extend our sincere sympathy to all who have recently lost a loved one. If you have any news you would like to share, or for life insurance and annuity needs, please contact Debbie Lewis at 614-875-9968 or email DAL9968@aol.com. Branch 132 South Bend, IN by John E. Bums When I last wrote, it appeared we were heading into spring early as the temperatures were in the 60s and 70s in February. However, the weather has really been wild as of late, as we have had rain, hail, freezing rain and snow all in the same week. We even experienced a couple of tornado touchdowns in the area. No one was hurt, but there was quite a bit of property damage. Our branch's summer picnic has been set for July 30, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Pottawatomi Park Pavilion #1 in South Bend. The permit has already been secured. The branch will provide the main items, sodas and utensils, as in the past. We ask that members RSVP and bring a dish to share. More information to follow in the next issue of the magazine. Branch 132 continues to actively WILLIAM PENN LIFE 0 April 2017 0 27
