Branch News ley St., Dayton, on Dec. 13 at 1:00 p.m. This year, we will have special entertainment by comedian, juggler and ventriloquist Mike Hemmelgam. Watch out for those juggled bowling balls! Don't be late as the entertainment starts promptly at 1:00 p.m. Of course, the star of the day will be St. Nicholas. Please try to arrive by noon. At that time, we will have a branch meeting, and we can always use the extra helping hands for the party. If you have any ideas for next year's activities, be sure to tell us. Happy birthday to all those celebrating a birthday in November. I sure can't forget wedding anniversaries. Thank you, Anne Marie, for the last 30 years together. I love you. Our prayers and condolences go to those who have lost a loved. May those who are ill recover soon. John Demeter, we hope you are feeling better soon. If you have any news to share or need help with any insurance or annuity questions, please contact Anne Marie or me at 937-667-1211 or Michele Daley-LaFlame at 937-671-0045. How many days to Christmas? Branch 296 Springdale, PA by Mary Ann Kelly-Lovasz For the second year in a row, our branch's annual bacon roast was quite an enjoyable day. The weather certainly cooperated, and we were thankful because there was quite a downpour the night before. It was a bit on the cooler side, but when you're roasting bacon and among nice folks, there is a warm feeling. Our bacon roast was open to one and all, and we welcomed WPA members and their guests from Branches 34, 88, 89, 226 and 352. The covered dishes everyone brought to share were amazing. Thank you so much! Those tables in the pavilion certainly had a variety of delicious food, and if you went home hungry, it was your own fault. Meeting folks for the first time was enjoyable, as was seeing those whom we had not seen in quite some time. Some of us met as strangers, but parted as newly-made friends, and that really made it worthwhile. Socializing like this is good for the heart, mind and soul! Riverside Park also offered two porch-type swings facing the Allegheny River that were new since last year. Many attendees walked around the park and ended up by relaxing on the swings for a spell. It's just a beautiful little park and many of us commented that it would probably be the last time that they would see or cross the old Hulton Bridge that was within eyesight of our pavilion. As I'm writing this, that bridge has now been closed for the final time and the beautiful brand new Hulton Bridge will open very soon, with the original one scheduled for demolition in 2016. Farewell, old Hulton Bridge! We really enjoyed having this bacon roast and want to thank our branch members who did a topnotch job in preparations and recovery: Toni and Marge Kosheba, Diane and John Torma, Helen and Mary Ann Slaninka, Noreen Fritz, and John Lovász. We also want to thank Judit Borsay for lending us her roasting sticks and purchasing the bacon for roasting (lots of great comments on the bacon, by the way); Judit Ganchuk for delivering the bacon and kolbász (wow girl, that was a lotta stuff!) and the Women's Guild of the Free Hungarian Reformed Church of McKeesport for making such delicious kolbász. It was time well spent, and I'll bet we'll do this again next year. It's not too early to mark your calendars for our family branch Christmas party. We're planning an entertaining afternoon for our members on Sunday, Nov. 29, at the Springdale Veterans Association (VFW) on Pittsburgh Street at noon. Please plan on joining us for a relaxing time with great food and fellowship. Santa and Mrs. Claus are excited about visiting us again. (We're giving you ample warning in case you're currently on the 'naughty' list.) Please make your reservations by calling Diane Torma at 724-882- 3802 or by emailing her at dtorma@ williampennassociation.org. Deadline for party reservations is Nov. 18. Remember that this is the "giving time" of the year. So, we are asking families coming to our party to bring non-perishable food items or paper products which our branch will donate to a local food bank. Last year's attendees did an outstanding job with their donations. The recipients of your donations certainly appreciated your thoughtfulness and generosity. Congratulations to Branch 296's newest WPFA Scholarship Foundation grant recipients: Jeffrey Holmes, Spencer Hurley, Lottie Murray, Jered Tupik, Juselyn Tupik and Brett Zmenkowski. We wish each of you, along with our renewing scholarship recipients, an outstanding and memorable academic year. We encourage you to persevere through whatever lies ahead in the pursuit of your dreams. Please feel free to share with us some of your college experiences. Our members would enjoy reading about your successes. Happy birthday greetings to all of our members, including my fatherin-law John L. Lovász, and belated wishes to Dorothy Dinzeo, (it was great seeing you at the bacon roast). Get well wishes to each of our members who are recovering from illness or injury and condolences to all who have lost a loved one recently. We remember each of you in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. We thank and support those who have served our country in the military and most especially honor them this Veterans Day, Nov. 11. And, of course, the last Thursday of this month brings us Thanksgiving. Warmest wishes to each of you on that day. Our branch meetings are always held on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at King's Family Restaurant in New Kensington. Our next meeting is Nov. 12. For those who have not attended a meeting in a while, we'd love to see you again! Please contact me if you have any branch news you would like to share at makelly367@verizon.net or at 724-274-5318. Noreen Fritz, our friendly and helpful agent, has the answers to all of your life insurance and annuities questions. She can be reached at 412-821-1837 or at noreenbunny.fritz@ verizon.net. Have an enjoyable November, everyone. William Penn Life 0 November 2015 0 25
