Branch News Branch 352 Coraopolis, PA by Dora S. McKinsey Happy Thanksgiving everyone! It's hard to believe that the holidays are upon us. May you and your family have a very blessed Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is the time of year when we are reminded to give thanks for all that God has given us. We have much to be thankful for. I am especially thankful for my family and the close bond we have. I thank God every day for the good health we all enjoy and pray that it continues. My hope and prayer is that all of us will recognize our blessings and share what we can with those less fortunate. We celebrate Veterans Day on Nov. 11. Let us remember those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. Remember to thank a veteran for his or her service to our country. Branch 352 will be holding its Christmas party for branch juvenile members on Sunday, Nov. 22, at Sports Haven Bowl in Bridgeville, PA beginning at noon. All juvenile members should try to attend and enjoy a day of bowling fun. We are also conducting a food drive as we have done in the past. Please be generous in donating non-perishable food items for the local food bank. Your help is much needed and appreciated. Congratulations to all Branch 352 scholarship recipients for the 2015- 2016 school year. They are: Angelina M. Buechler, Coleman T. Colandene, Corey A. Lazor, Alexandra D. Maldonato, Gábriellé M. Maldonato, Otto E. Nagengast, Anthony V. Palumbo, Dana R. Palumbo, Katlyn M. Puskar and Madalyn M. Puskar. May you all have a successful year. College students appreciate the money they receive from the WPFA Scholarship Foundation. Please remember to donate to the scholarship foundation so that future generations of scholars can benefit. Happy birthday to all those celebrating a birthday this month. May you be blessed with many more, and may all of them be healthy. A curious thought came to me today about how I came to be a member of William Penn Association. My grandparents, who were from Hungary, came to the U.S. and joined the Verhovay Aid Association in Pennsylvania. I can remember my grandmother going to the Hungarian Club in Canonsburg, Pa., and paying money. I always wondered what she was paying for. Later, as I got older, I found out it was for insurance. Many years later, I met a handsome young Hungarian Freedom Fighter that came to the U.S. during the 1956 Revolution. We met at a Hungarian picnic in McKeesport, Pa. Two years later, we were married. We met the Kara and Vámos families, and they told us about WPA. We joined and soon after were knee-deep in helping Branch 34.1 remember making many pounds of kolbász and huge pots of stuffed cabbage for our branch's picnics. We had many good friends there, but my husband Andy's dream was to move to California. So, out west we went. One of our friends, Branch 525 officer John Balint, was the one who got us involved here. Soon after we joined the branch, Andy became the branch coordinator and sold insurance. John played Krampusz at the branch Christmas party. The children would look at him and try to figure out what he was, for he sure wasn't Santa. Recently, we welcomed the fifth generation of the Balint family to our branch, John's great-great-granddaughter Audrey Rush. We thank the Balint family for all their support of our branch and WPA. We need more parents and grandparents to sign up their children and grandchildren, not only to protect them with life insurance but also to preserve our Hungarian heritage. I count four generations of my family as members of WPA. How many generations of your family belong? We need to pass on our Hungarian heritage, and membership in WPA is a great way to do it. Well, that's my story. Andy has passed away, but I still help keep the branch going and love doing the Christmas parties. But, we do need more members. So, call me or the Home Office to learn how you can help us. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Keep our soldiers in your prayers. Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Dave Greiner The 11th month of 2015 is upon us. Daylight Savings Time ends Nov. 1. Don't forget to turn your clocks back one hour. National Vocations Awareness Week is observed Nov. 1 through 7. Let's hope all our young adults can find some insight and begin planning for a bright future and a better physical, mental and spiritual life. Thanksgiving is on Thursday, Nov. 26. Our branch will continue its long tradition of having a Mass said for all of our deceased members. The City of Pittsburgh can be very proud of the Pirates for making the playoffs for a third straight year. Once again, they finished in the first wild card position and hosted the play-in game. It's sad that the Bucs lost to the Cubs, 4-0. Let's hope they can win the division title in 2016. Our branch's Christmas party is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 6, starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Hampton Inn, 180 Charlotte Dr., Altoona. For more information and to make reservations for the party, call Branch President Vince Frank at 814-695-0213. All members are encouraged to attend our monthly meetings, held at Our Lady of Lourdes Religious Continued on Page 28 26 ° November 2015 0 William Penn Life
