Branch News Saying good-bye to summer WPA members from throughout southwest Pennsylvania gathered Sept. 20 for the annual bacon roast hosted by Branch 296 Springdale, Pa. This year’s event was held at Riverside Park in Oakmont, Pa. Guests enjoyed the bacon, grilled kolbász and soft drinks provided by the branch, along with a wide variety of delicious side dishes and sweet treats provided by those attending the gathering. (Photos by Alex Patho Photography) Branch 249 Dayton, OH by Mark Schmidt October—and its endless variety of festivals—is over. Last month, we celebrated everything from mums, sauerkraut and apples to popcorn and (of course) pumpkins with their own fests. A great time of the year for gaining weight. Topping it all off? The dreaded, sugar-laced Halloween. Speaking of festivals and weight gain, The Magyar Club of Dayton held its Gulyás Fest Oct. 23 at the Eintracht Club. The food was so delicious that we all rolled out of there like beer barrels in the polka song. Congratulations to all the members elected by the General Convention to WPA's new Board of Directors Oct. 11. With an even mix of returning and new directors, this Board promises an exciting four years filled with new ideas to expand the fraternalism of WPA. Recently, we met Bob Bisceglia, WPA's Sales Director, while he was in the Dayton area. Bob is actively looking for agents in the Dayton- Cincinnati area and plans to help the Dayton branch increase its membership. This month, I am hoping for an Indian summer, not the typical dreary, rainy, cold, early-winter weather we often get. Boy, I hate raking wet leaves. Be sure to gather your family on Thanksgiving. I know the holiday was set up to give thanks for all God's bounties and blessings, but, to me, the biggest blessing He gave me was my family. I can live a long time without food; not so long without my family. May you and yours be safe throughout the holiday season. Holiday season? Already?! The Magyar Club of Dayton is holding its Christmas party at the Amber Rose restaurant Dec. 13 at 1:00 p.m. Please call Michele Daley- LaFlame at 937-674-0045 for reservations. And, the event of the year, at least for kids (and the young at heart) is the Branch 249 children's Christmas party. It will be held at the American Czechoslovakian Club, 922 Val-24 0 November 2015 0 William Penn Life
