Branch 352 member Mia Phillips writes out her Christmas wish list for Santa. Branch 296 Springdale, PA by Mary A. Kelly-Lovasz Welcome to 2014, everyone. It's interesting to take a look back to see where the world was 100 years ago in 1914: • The Ford Motor Company instituted the 8-hour workday, offering a $5 wage for a day's labor. • Babe Ruth began his professional baseball career as a minor league pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles, and several months later made his major league debut. • The first feature-length silent movie premiered, starring Charlie Chaplin. • And, the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of the Austro-Hungarian Empire was assassinated, resulting in the outbreak of World War I. Am I a student of history? Absolutely. The past provides a glimpse into the future. The year 1914 was a terrible year for war throughout the world, and we can only work towards a better world in 2014. Branch 296 welcomes new members Madison Rusak, Cadance Borland and Courtney Grantz. We extend get well wishes to Irene Charles and to all of our members who are recovering from a health setback. Our sympathy goes to those who have lost family and friends recently, as well. They are remembered. As was mentioned a year ago at this time, William Penn Association is a fraternal benefit society, and we care about each of our members. "Fraternalism" means showing mutual support, so why not start the new year with that in mind? If you're curious about participating in branch activities, we're always welcoming members to attend our meetings. It's a very relaxed atmosphere, and we look forward to seeing one another. Remember, too, that William Penn Association offers excellent life insurance and annuity plans to suit your changing needs. If you like our products and fraternal events, then spread the word. By recommending family members or friends to WPA, you can earn a Recommender Award and help us to continue growing. With that in mind, Branch 296 will be taking a break from our meetings until March. In the meantime, if you have branch news or personal milestones that you would like to share, you may contact me at 724-274-5318 or at makelly367@ verizon.net. Our friendly and helpful agent, Noreen Fritz, is ready for 2014 with the answers to all of your life insurance and annuities needs. Contact Noreen at 412-821-1837 or noreenbunny.fritz@verizon.net. Until next month, stay warm and I hope to hear from you! Branch 352 Coraopolis, PA by Dora S. McKinsey Happy New Year to all! May the new year bring us all good health and happy times with family and friends. Hope your holidays were spent with the ones you love. The thrill of the holiday season is now behind us. For us in Pittsburgh, the cold weather is here, and we must get through the winter as best we can. We need to keep our eyes on the promise of spring—renewal of life. Our branch Christmas party was held Nov. 24 in conjunction with Branches 34 and 71. Once again, the food and fellowship were enjoyed by all who attended. Thank you to the WPA Home Office for supplying the gift items for the children and for its generous financial support. It is through the support of WPA that we can offer this wonderful fraternal event for our members. We requested that attendees bring nonperishable food items to be dis-26 0 January 2014 ° William Penn Life
