Branch News was on his way. What a sound of joy! Santa talked to each child and his helpers gave each child a bag of goodies. It was a very successful affair, and all are looking forward to coming again next year. Branch 90 Allentown, PA Branch 98 Bethlehem, PA Branch 216 Northampton, PA by Nancy M. Kovach On Dec. 9 we held our annual Christmas party at McDonald's Restaurant in Emmaus, Pa. It was a beautiful day, a little early in the holiday season, but everyone in attendance had a wonderful afternoon. Lunch was served to all. The children enjoyed their "Happy Meals" and their surprises. After the food was served, gifts were distributed to all of the children and their parents. Everyone loved the colorful flashing tambourines! We all made beautiful music together. Later, the children played and the adults visited with each other. Ice cream was served, and we parted after a happy time together. Thanks to the WPA and Board of Directors for their gifts and assistance in making our party so memorable. We wish everyone a happy and healthy new year. Branch 129 Columbus, OH by Árpád Sibrik Branch 129 held its elections of officers for 2008 and all current officers were reelected, except that Arpad Sibrik was elected as the new vice president. Mr. Bartfay did not seek reelection for this position. On Dec. 8 the branch held its Christmas party at the Grove City Elks Club. About 150 members and guests attended. The food included great Hungarian dishes catered by the Hungarian Culture Club. The children enjoyed a magic show, and, afterwards, Santa arrived with gifts for all children up to age 15. The party concluded with the Gegenheimer girls playing Christmas music on their violins. Thanks, girls. You did a great job. Our condolences to the Peterfy family on the death of Bela Peterfy. His funeral was held at the Evans Funeral Home with Rev. Ortos officiating. Afterwards there was a luncheon at the Hungarian church. At the last branch meeting, our members passed a motion to hold meetings for the year 2008 on a bimonthly basis with a break during the summer months. Meetings will be held in January, March, May, September and November. Elections for branch officers will be held during the November meeting. The meetings for January and March are scheduled to be held on the third Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. at Martin's Deli in the Erskine Plaza on Ireland Road. All branch members are welcome to attend, but only members age 16 and older may vote at the meetings. The branch will contribute up to $3 to each member who purchases food at the deli during the meeting. I encourage all members to attend our meetings and to participate in any decisions that need to be made. Branch 296 Springdale, PA by Diane M. Torma Branch 296 held its elections of officers on Dec. 13. The following members were elected to serve our branch for the year 2008: Ron Balia, president; Tom Santoriello, vice president; Diane M. Torma, secretarytreasurer; and Margaret Kosheba and Audra Balia, auditors. The officers were sworn in by John Torma. On Dec. 9, the branch Christmas party was held at the Springdale Veterans Association. President Balia welcomed everyone and extended holiday greetings on behalf of the WPA. The children were then enthralled with the magical performance of Jason Christopher, who returned this year as entertainment. Many volunteered to participate in the show and did a terrific job. The crowd was led in Christmas song, which prompted Santa and 18 William Penn Life, January 2008 Children of Branch 296 await the arrival of Santa at the branch’s Christmas party.
