Branch News mmi Enjoying the Branch I Bridgeport, Conn., picnic held June 19 are Branch Treasurer John Woodworth, Valerie Woodworth and Joe Poruban, chief elder of the Bridgeport United Church of Christ. Branch 14 Cleveland, OH by Dawn D. Ward TTtis summer has been very active and productive for Branch 14. Kudos to Violet Sarosi for organizing a bus trip to Presque Isle, Pa., July 11 and raising $800 to be donated to the WPFA Scholarship Foundation! The majority of the people on the trip were members of the Hungarian Charity Club of which Mrs. Sarosi has been treasurer for 49 years and president for 12 years. People on the bus trip brought items to donate for raffles and made donations to the WPFA Scholarship Foundation. The generosity of the people on the bus trip and the organizational effort by Mrs. Sarosi are to be commended. Branch 14 members also enjoyed an outing on the Nautica Dinner Cruise June 30 and an Indians game July 13. The branch's activities are planned at our regular business meetings. Very often there are limited tickets available for these activities, so all branch members are encouraged to attend the meetings. There are four meetings a year held the first Wednesday of March, April, September, and December. Due to a conflict with the WPA convention, the September meeting will be held the second Wednesday of that month, Sept. 12. Plan to attend to help plan a fall outing. The annual Branch 14 Christmas party will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the First Hungarian Church Bethlen Hall. Mark your calendars. We were all very saddened by the passing of former Branch 14 President Rose Kaul. Mrs. Kaul attended meetings regularly and was very active in the branch until her recent health problems. We're grateful that her son-in-law and daughter, Lou and Gladys Üveges, brought her to branch meetings. We celebrated her 90th birthday at a branch meeting a few years ago, and we will always remember her for the wonderful crepes she made and the beautiful ceramic gifts she made for people. Rose's pleasant demeanor will be missed. The next Branch 14 meeting will be held Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the Bethlen Hall of the First Hungarian Reformed Church, 14530 Alexander Road, Walton Hills, Ohio. Hope to see you there. Branch 18 Lincoln Park, MI by Barbara A. House I hope you are planning to attend the WPA Picnic at Penn Scenic View on Sept. 15. Branch 18 will again be offering an overnight trip, leaving Friday, Sept. 14. We will stop at the Flight 93 memorial along the way, after our usual Cracker Barrel breakfast and shopping. I already have 26 people on the bus. Please call me as soon as possible to reserve your space or fill out the form found on the next page and return it to me. Special thanks to Joan Rectenwald for keeping me up to date. Thanks also to Elmer Toth and Mr. Lovász for thinking of me. Congrats to Lisa and Mark on your wedding. Hope you have many happy years together. Speaking of many years, congrats to Betty and A1 Vargo on their recent 50th anniversary. I forgot to mention Irene and Rudy Korpák celebrated their 21st anniversary. We love you. Congratulations also to Joe Gegus who celebrates his 80th birthday this month. We also send our best wishes to Joe and his wife Pauline who marked their 62nd wedding anniversary on July 23. I attended a funeral recently and noticed how much money is spent on flowers. Wouldn't a donation to the WPA's Scholarship Foundation be a more fitting tribute? That way your memorial would go on and on. I have been doing this for quite some time, and now it really has brought some wonderful comments. Perhaps you should give it some thought. The WPA sends a lovely card to whomever you would want it sent. Please remember our Scholarship Foundation. Welcome new members Eva Deloach, Logan D. Rich, Lawrence Semetko and Emily Mach. Thank you also to Louise Semetko, Amanda Semetko and Deac Sabo for adding to your coverage. You are all welcome to take part in any WPA event. Hope to see you all soon. I met Joe Horvath at the Holy Cross festival. What a true fratemalist he is. William Penn Life, August 2007 17
