Branch News journey with us. The weather was perfect for the festivities. With so many things to do and so many friends to visit, the day just went by all too quickly. Many of our group left with not only pleasant memories and full stomachs but also arms full of prizes. Lucky Cyndi Wofton won five Chinese auction prizes. Joan Mauerman won two prizes. Tom Jarabuk, Julia Taylor and Steve Novak each won one. Chef Béla's enormous basket of kitchen goodies road home with Cyndi Wofton. And, among the winners in the insurance agents' raffle were Charlie Aczel and Mary Foor. We thank Endre Csornán and his wonderful committee and working crew for providing this great fraternal event for all of us. Watch your mail for your invitation to our annual Christmas party and scholarship raffle to be held on Saturday, Dec. 2. Wishing the best of luck to Ernie Szabó on his new venture, the Paprika Cafe, Youngstown's only Hungarian restaurant. Ernie held the grand opening Oct. 4 to 9. There was television coverage and Mayor Jay Williams cut the ribbon. The Paprika Cafe is located at 2626 Mahoning Ave. and is open daily for lunch and dinner. Best of luck, Ernie! Congratulations to all those celebrating a birthday or anniversary, especially Lou and Margaret Sabo on their 64th anniversary and Joe and Julia Taylor on their 55th. Get well wishes to all those under the weather, especially Steve Takacs who recently underwent open heart surgery. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who recently lost a loved one. Wishing you all a blessed Thanwksgiving. Branch 51 Passaic, NJ by Christine Baldyga Branch 51 will hold its annual Christmas party and election of officers on Sunday, Dec. 3. Branch 76 Philadelphia, PA by Jack Tokár Hello and greetings to everyone! The important news this month is about our meetings. Since the old Philadelphia Hungarian Club building was sold, we are presently having our meetings at the The Danube Swabian Club (Duna Swab Club) at 1277 Southampton Road, Philadelphia. It is just one or two blocks up the street from our former club building. Because our regular meeting date would fall on the day after Thanksgiving, we are changing the date for our November meeting to Friday, Nov. 17, at 8:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. If you are interested in serving as an officer or auditor, please let me know so that your name can be placed in nomination from the floor. We hope to see you at the election meeting. We welcome new member Irene McCool to our WPA family. We want to send special good wishes to all those who have celebrated birthdays or anniversaries. We hope that the coming holidays will be joyous ones for you. Branch 296 Springdale, PA by Diane M. Torma The weather certainly cooperated for our annual bacon roast which was held on Oct. 7 at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Springdale. It was a clear, sunny, autumn day to enjoy szalonna, kolbász and many delicious side dishes and desserts, but especially one another's company in fraternal fashion. Special thanks to Patty Balia, George, Irene and Jim Charles and Ronda Grotefend for cleaning up the hall and preparing the grounds before and after the event. We were very pleased to have with us Fraternal Director Endre Csornán and his wife Arlene, as well as Tamás Hovanyecz, an intern from Hungary who has been working at the William Penn Association Home Office. Tamás is a very interesting young man and everyone enjoyed hearing his story and insights. Thanks to the branch officers and members for your hard work in making the day a success: Ron and Patty Balia, George, Irene and Jim Charles, Noreen Fritz, Helen and Boris Gosciejew, Ronda Grotefend, Marge Kosheba (we missed you), Tony and Diane Thomas and John Torma. Your dedication is appreciated. November birthday greetings to Chelsea Blankenship, Gary Dinzeo, Mary Ann Kelly-Lovasz and Randy Fritz. May your special day be filled with all that you love. Happy anniversary wishes to some special people: Ron and Patty Balia, who recently celebrated 37 years of marriage, and George and Irene Charles who will celebrate 51 years on Nov. 26! Hope you all have many more to come. William Penn Life, November2006 17
