T>___ „I» H QOBranch io9 Alliance, OH by Sherri Cole It's been a busy month here at Branch 189. The Ladies Auxiliary is sponsoring a boys hot stove baseball team. The team's first game was May 2. The auxiliary is also sponsoring the Alliance/Marlington girls softball team. Go William Penn! For information on the softball team, go to their website at www.amsoftball.org. You can find out the schedule on the board at the Club. We have three members who have sons serving in our armed forces who have been deployed. PFC Brian Waite, son of Donna Waite, was deployed from Germany to Iraq in January 2004. He is stationed outside the city of Baqubah. He is a member of an engineering battallion and will be deployed for a year with the possibility of an extended tour of duty. Sgt Donald Cobbs, an insured member since childhood, is a member of the National Guard unit from Alliance and is now on active duty at Aviano Air Base in Italy. His unit will support the Air Force in providing security at gates, checking identification and performing vehicle inspections. He will spend nine months there. Donald is the son of Gracie Cobbs, who serves as the vice president of our club's board of directors and as president of the Ladies Auxiliary. James Metzger, son of Shannon Metzger, is a member of Alliance's National Guard unit and is now in the midst of a one year tour of duty at an Air Force base in England, where he will help provide security at gates, check identification and perform vehicle inspections. Prayers, letters and thank you cards from new friends are very welcome. We have addresses for two of these three servicemen. To contact Brian, write to: PFC Brian K. Donald Cobbs E5 Unit 6130 Box 205 APO AE 09601-0205 The Ladies Auxiliary is currently establishing drop sites for much needed items and monetary donations to help offset shipping costs. Larry Stewart, president of Alliance Casting, Inc., has generously agreed to match half of the shipping costs. Thank you! All donations and letters must be sent directly to the servicemen listed, who will distribute the items to their units. Due to rules established after the 9/11 attacks, items and letters are no longer permitted to be sent to "any service member." We are asking donations from members to show and help support our troops. Items that are really needed by those in Iraq include powdered drink mixes (sugar already added), bug spray, sunscreen, eye drops, individual hand sanitizer, baby/body wipes, neosporin, foot powder, lip balm, magazines, books, games books (e.g., crossword puzzles), cards, batteries, stationary, Tootsie Pops, Tootsie Rolls, pretzel rods and hard candy. Soldiers in Europe would appreciate receiving phone cards. 16 William Peia Life, June 2004
