Brax . Mews Guests ot the Branch 18 family picnic had plenty of cover from both the sun and the rain...and it turns out they needed both that day. Branch 14 Cleveland, OH by Dawn D. Ward Many Branch 14 members are looking forward to attending the third annual WPA picnic at beautiful Penn Scenic View Sept. 13. Thanks to Violet Sarosi for making arrangements for the bus which filled up so quickly. The next branch activity is the annual children's Christmas party on Sunday, Nov. 30, at the First Hungarian Reformed Church in Walton Hills. All juvenile members of Branch 14 will receive invitations, but all Branch 14 members are welcome to attend. Congratulations to Branch 14 member Kristen Stalter who has been selected to the United States Youth Soccer Region II Girls Olympic Development Program Team in her age group. Teams from each of the 14 Midwestern states competed for selection to the regional team. Kristen attended a regional camp held in DeKalb, 111., as part of the '88 State Team for Ohio-North. At this camp, only 16 girls were selected out of 300. She is one of 80 girls from the United States who will attend National Camp in Austin, Texas, where they will be seen by many respected national coaches. Kristen is a sophomore at Strongsville High School where she is a member of the high school team. She also plays for the Cleveland Futbol Club. Kristen is the daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Stalter, and the granddaughter of longtime Branch 14 members Vera and Tom Levi. Congratulations to Branch 14 members Dante and Joan Parete of Parma, Ohio, who celebrated their 40th anniversary in May. Their children surprised them with a trip to Branson, Mo., which they'll take at the end of August before Joan goes to Pittsburgh to represent Branch 14 as a delegate to the WPA 35th General Convention. Branch 14 welcomes the following new members: Joseph Duncan, Angela Graf, James Graf, Suzanne Horvath, Jonathan Korn, Cameron Scarpelli, Xander Scarpelli, Nate Schafer, Kayla Schuemann and Paige Sevits. Please contact Jeff Ward at 440- 838-1200 with the names of any potential new members and get rewarded with a WPA finder's fee! The next Branch 14 meeting will be held Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the First Hungarian Reformed Bethlen Hall, 14530 Alexander Road, Walton Hills, Ohio. All branch members are welcome to attend to help plan future activities. Branch 18 Lincoln Park, MI by Barbara A. House We here at Branch 18 are recovering from a very successful picnic. The day started out beautiful, then St. Anthony couldn't hold off anymore and the rains came. They came for about two hours. But, it ended up to be a great picnic. We had about 170 people, rain and all. I want to thank all your wonderful officers: Helen Molnár, Carol Truesdell, Rose Antal, Doug Truesdell, Elsie Kantor and Tom House. They worked really hard. Also, thank you to Arpad Antal, Steve and Ann Nagy, András Breznai and Olga and A1 Wansa. The Wansas also brought their son Mike and his lady Kati. They worked from start to finish. Kati also took some magnificent pictures. Thank you, Eileen Gonzales, Rocky and Emma Borsa and Emma Poliska. Billy Rose and Joseph Vidék entertained us with their Hungarian melodies. Grace and Mary Balaythy were prepared to make fánk for all, but the weather did not cooperate. Thank you, Borsas and Bubenkos, for your many donations. Thank you to all who brought desserts; they were wonderful. I'm sure I missed someone, but I sure hope I didn't. You are all appreciated and needed. We could never be such a successful branch without you. Thank you, Home Office, for all the goodies we gave to our members. Thank you all for all your hard work. Rudy Korpák was the guest of honor at a surprise 80th birthday party. Their were 60 people in attendance. The gypsies played and brought back many happy memories with their appropriate songs. Thank you all for honoring my stepfather, Rudy. Happy birthday again, Rudy. We love you. Happy birthday wishes go to members Hayley Mayoros, Bernard Korody, Julius Ivan, Bill Tury, John 16 William Penn Lile, September 2003
