The Honorable Géza Jeszenszky, Hungarian ambassador to the U.S., was the main speaker. Several notable performers used their talents to enhance the program, including cellist Linda Hajdú, pianist Judith Bach and vocalist Almást Bedrosian-Kovach. Gyongy Jeszenski and Sándor Vegso recited poems in Hungarian, and Karl Barlay presented poems in English. The Columbus children's choir, Voices of the City, under the direction of Dr. Sandra Mathias, also performed. After the program we had a luncheon with the ambassador at the Adams Mark Hotel. About 150 people attended the luncheon. Ohio Gov. BobTaft sent a resolution to the celebration in which he recognized "the legacy of Louis Kossuth for his enduring and historical contribu tions to democracy and justice." In the resolution, Gov. Taft also saluted "the officers, members, families and friends of the Hungarian American community organizations in Ohio.. .for their many years of tireless, personal efforts to restore freedom, democracy and a free market economy to their beloved homeland, for contributing to the quality of life in the State of Ohio, and for preserving the traditions of the Hungarian family and community." We add our congratulations to the Cultural Association of the Hungarian Reformed Church for all their hard work in making the celebration such a huge success. In other news, our branch is planning to send a women's team to Akron for the WPA's Annual Bowling Tournament. A couple of men and some children will also participate. The WPA is accepting applications for its scholarship program. You can find more information about this program on the inside of the front cover of this issue. Our next branch meeting will be held April 10 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hungarian Reformed Church, 365 E. Woodrow Ave., Columbus. We are hoping you will join us. The WPA is offering a very good insurance program for spouses of members. This offer for guaranteed coverage is good until June 30, 2002. A member's spouse can qualify for up to $5,000 of life insurance without any medical questions. If you are interested in this program, please call me at (614) 231- 8024, or write to me at 645 S. Kellner Road, Columbus, OH 43209. in the entire school district. Lauren received a trophy at an awards ceremony in February. Way to go, Lauren! Keep up with the creative work. Congratulations are in order, too, for Lauren's older brother Brian Ratkiewicz, whose hockey team, Greater Pittsburgh Huskies (Pee Wee team), completed an outstanding season and clinched the division championship. Brian was second leading scorer on his team and achieved his first "hat trick." Good job, Brian—we're proud of you. A special thank you goes out to Keely Mager and Courtney Mager for the thoughtfulness and time you put into filling shoe boxes for our Operation Christmas Child campaign. I'm sure the children who receive the boxes will be so happy. We hold our monthly meetings on the second Thursday of each month at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Springdale at 7:30 p.m. The next scheduled meeting is on April 11.
