bership activities manager, is a member of Branch 352 and the one organizing the picnic, we felt we should help him as much as we can. It was decided, with Endre's blessing, that Branch 352 will sponsor the langos table and the Chinese auction. Members Helen and Bill Werling will organize the langos table, while George and Dianne Charles and Barbara Kapinus will handle the Chinese auction. If you would like to volunteer to help at the picnic, please contact Endre Csornán at (412) 231-2979, ext. 136. Now, for something near and dear to my heart: Operation Christmas Child, our Association-wide charitable project. The OCC-2002 campaign is off and running. So far, we have collected 105 filled shoe boxes. Last year, we collected 709. Thank you so much for your generosity. Information packets with this year's goal and deadline for donations have been mailed. Our branch has supported this project in the past and has already given a donation for 2002. We welcome Gene Chaussard to the WPA family. We are so glad that you are part of our branch. And, by the way Gene, how do you like my windows now? Ha! Congratulations to branch member Summer Ann Tissue (pictured) who was named to the dean's list at Edinboro University in February. She was also invited to join the Alpha Thi Sigma sorority, national criminal order system. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Tissue Jr. of Plum Boro, Pa., and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Tissue Sr. of South Park, Pa. and Mr. and Mrs. William Bracken of Bethel Park, Pa. Happy birthday to Steve Charles and Helen Werling and all Branch 352 members who recently celebrated a birthday. May you all have many happy, healthy years. Our next branch meeting will be held Saturday, April 13, at 9:00 a.m. at 709 Brighton Road. We are considering changing the time, day and place of our monthly meetings, and we would like your input. Please call George S. Charles Jr. at (412) 231- 2979, ext. 121, and tell him your preferences of day, time and location, and they will be considered. For all of your life insurance and annuity needs, please contact Barbara Kapinus, branch coordinator, at (412) 279-8890. She will be glad to help. If you have news you would like to share, please call Dianne A. Charles at (412) 221-5136. Branch 590 Cape Coral, FL by Joan Mauerman Branch 590's March meeting was held in Egret Hall, Cape Coral. Branch President Mike Tomcsak conducted a memorial service in memory of the March 15,1848, freedom fighters. He read the Nemzeti Dal ("National Song"). Michael, Pauline and Maren Tomcsak spent spring break with Pauline's sister Darla in Casper, Wyo. Maren loved it there. They had a lot of snow, and they built a snowman and went sledriding. Maren said she saw a lot of deer and antelopes. She came home with a pair of cowboy boots. When they left Orlando, it was 85 degrees, and when they landed in Casper, it was 1 degree. They said the mountains were beautiful. A few of our members attended a Gaelic show in honor of St. Patrick's Day. I enjoyed the Irish tenor Paul Hennessey. What a beautiful voice. During that same week, we attended a performance of the Florida Ballet. The dancers just floated across the stage. Happy birthday to Bob Menner, Austin Damon and Jodi Damon. Branch 590 members are going on a train ride April 27. We will meet at the station in Fort Myers at 9:00 a.m. Our weather has been beautiful. As I write this, it is 75 degrees--and it's only 9:00 a.m. The average high temperature has been about 80. My daughter Debbie Meehan and her family are visiting from New Springfield, Ohio, and they are really enjoying the pool. For all your life insurance and annuity needs, please call Mike Tomcsak at (863) 858-8071. Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Vincent Frank Branch 800 has lost another one of its 50-year members. Robert L. Stubber, 80, died Feb. 25,2002, at Garvey Manor Nursing Home in Hollidaysburg, Pa. He retired from the Altoona Mirror as a printer. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a barbershop quartet singer for over 30 years. Surviving are his wife Madge and six sons. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Altoona. May he rest in peace. We are looking forward to the May 7 meeting at 7:00 p.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes social hall. At that time we will be honoring our 50-year members who will become eligible this year for that honor. The honorees will be notified by mail. All fishermen are eagerly awaiting the first day of trout season April 13. Soon, thousands of area sportsmen will be pulling on their boots, grabbing their fishing rods and heading for streams and lakes to make the big catch. May you all enjoy the season. The Rev. George D. Koharchik, pastor of St. Dismas Church at the prison in Huntingdon, Pa., sent a letter to the branch thanking the branch for its generous donation to his parish. He said it means a great deal to the men in the prison to know they have the support and assistance of dedicated people on the outside. Your prayers are asked for Mary Yeager. Mary had a terrible fall in which she broke her leg. She is now recuperating at home. God bless you, Mary. May you enjoy a full recovery. Our summer picnic has been scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 6:00 p.m. at Highland Park in Altoona. Please mark your calendar. Attention parents: Has their been a new birth in your family? If so, then continued on Page 20 16 Williaa Pern Life, April 2002
