Ward Branch 14 Reporter Branch 14 ended the year with its traditional children’s Christmas party held Dec. 13 at the Ridge Manor Party Center. Chairperson for the event was Karen Congeni, Branch 14 president. Seventy-five juvenile members of Branch 14 and their families enjoyed a delicious dinner and entertainment by Sparkle the Clown. Of course, the highlight of the party was the arrival of Santa with his sack of toys. Congratulations to the newly elected officers of Branch 14: Karen Congeni, president; Ernest Raymond, vice president; Stanley Dorulla, secretary; Carol Perkins, treasurer; and Rose Kaul, Robert Perkins and Irene Evans, auditors. Elections were held Dec. 9. Congratulations to WPA scholarship recipient Sal Kafiti who is in his second year at Case Western Reserve University law school. Sal completed his first year of law school ranked sixth in his class of 225 students. It is always gratifying to hear about the achievements of our present and former scholarship recipients. Please call the Ward Agency at (440) 83 8-1200 with any information about Branch 14 members who have received scholarships. We’d love to report on their accomplishments. Anyone who follows scholastic wrestling in the Cleveland area has read about Branch 14 member Jarred Tanner, a senior atNordonia High School. Last year as a junior, he placed first in the state sectional tournament, second in the district tournament, and fourth in the state championship. This year he’s a threat to win the state championship. In addition to his wrestling accomplishments, Jarred was the defensive player of the year in football in the Western Reserve Conference. Great job, Jarred! The January branch meeting was cancelled due to inclement weather. The next meeting will be held Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Grand Bay Clubhouse, 7001 W. Cross Creek Trail, Brecksville. All Branch 14 members are welcome to attend. Branch 16 Perth Amboy, NJ By Michaelene Mirkovich Branch 16 Reporter On Dec. 12 the annual family Christmas party was held at the St. Nicholas Byzantine Church in Perth Amboy. Branch President George F. Mirkovich welcomed everyone and introduced WPA Chairman of the Board Michael Hrabar who extended greetings from the Home Office. Our entertainment for the afternoon was Johnny the Clown, who kept both the young and old guessing as to how he did his many magic tricks. His animal balloons delighted the children, and each received one to take home. But, as always, the highlight of the day was the entrance of Santa Claus. Prior to his arrival, Mr. Mészáros led all in singing traditional Christmas carols. At the sound of Santa’s bells, everyone began to sing “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” The children were thrilled and quickly got in line to tell Santa their secret wishes for presents under the tree. Each child received a gift from Santa and a bag of goodies. Thanks to all who helped with the preparations, including Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hrabar, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Mészáros, Mr. and Mrs. George F. Mirkovich, Mr. and Mrs. Michael David and Melissa Mirkovich. Before the party, we held our annual elections. Branch officers for 1999 are: George F. Mirkovich, president; Mary Mészáros, vice president; Steve Mészáros, secretary-treasurer; and Annette David and Michaelene Mirkovich, auditors. Melissa Mirkovich was chosen to serve as branch reporter. The officers and members of Branch 16 want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year, with health and happiness for all. Bodnar Branch 19 Secretary Our branch prepared and delivered two baskets of food to needy families in the New Brunswick area for Thanksgiving. Bodnar, president; Ruth Vasvary, vice president; Evelyn B. Bodnar, secretary; Christine Sárközi, treasurer; and Bert Suldo and Ernest Arvay, auditors. Past President Barbara Hegedűs is in Van Nuys, Calif., with her son Michael. We send her our regards during her long illness. Our Christmas party was held at the Bayard St. Presbyterian Church Hall. Entertainment was provided by Donna Winters, who sent the children home with painted faces and hands and balloon figures. Rev. Bodnar greeted members and guests and later led all in the singing of Christmas carols, accompanied on the piano by Evelyn Bodnar. As we sang “Jingle Bells,” Santa Claus entered. He gave each child a $2 bill and many gifts sent by the Home Office. We had lunch (planned by Evelyn Bodnar) and wonderful fellowship. Branch 26 Sharon, PA By Betty Panin Branch 26 President We had our annual family Christmas party on Dec. 5 at the Holy Trinity Auditorium in Farrell, Pa. We had a good turnout and want to thank the Home Office for sending us the funds for the party. Through the efforts of the Holy Name Society, we were able to have a luncheon buffet of kolbassi and all the trimmings, plus cookies and pastries baked by members. The magician captivated the children with his tricks, live birds and other animals. The appearance of Santa Claus was well received, as were his bags of fruit and candy. Old and young alike were happy with the gifts supplied by the Home Office. Branch 26 provided holiday baskets for several families and collected canned goods for the needy. The officers and members want to take this opportunity to thank the Home Office for its support which made this event a success.
