Radvany Branch 13 Secretary We are all looking forward to the 55th Annual Bowling Tournament in Dayton, Ohio. Another important event to occur at the same time is the annual meeting of the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation. All members and representatives to the meeting are urged to submit their donations and pledges at the meeting. The Foundation, which benefits our youth who are seeking a higher education, has grown tremendously due to our wholehearted support. I recently visited Florida with my husband, Frank, secretary of the Board emeritus; his brother, Dr. John Radvany; and his brother’s wife, Olga. We visited the First Presbyterian Church of Delray Beach, Fla. The senior pastor of the church, the Rev. Theodore A. Bush, Ph.D., introduced the guest speaker, the Rev. Prof. Janos D. Pásztor, Th.D., of the Reformed Church of Hungary, and his wife, Judith. Dr. Pásztor delivered an inspirational sermon. A native of Budapest, Dr. Pásztor has served as professor of ecumenical theology at the Reformed Theological Academy at Karoli Gaspar University in Budapest since 1988. Mrs. Pásztor also participated in the service we attended. She is active in women’s ministries in the Hungarian Reformed Church. A reception followed the service at which several Hungarian members of the church were present. We were very delighted to be present for this momentous occasion. Although the meeting was cancelled, the officers are still busy planning upcoming events. Any Branch 14 member interested in going to Northfield Park Racetrack should call Carol Perkins, branch treasurer, at (440) 238-6465 by April 18. The WPA bowling and golf tournaments are just around the comer, and Branch 14 would be glad to sponsor any members who are interested in representing the branch. Branch 14 members may now order tickets for the outing to Cedar Point by completing the form found in this issue and sending it to the Ward Agency. All ticket requests must be received by May 20. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH By Kathy Novak Branch 28 Reporter Happy spring! Happy Easter! Commemorating the 150th anniversary of the 1848 War of Independence was a double event of many Youngstown Hungarians. First, the Youngstown American Hungarian Federation hosted its annual program on Sunday, March 15, at the Franciscan Friary. The afternoon program included opening and closing remarks by the Rev. Matthew Kiss. The speaker this year was Gabor Tamas. Hungarian songs were sung by the Hungarian choir and Mrs. Agi Tamas. Mrs. Tamas also recited the famous “Nemzeti Dal.” Federation officers placed a wreath at the statue of St. Stephen. A brief social followed. Then a group of 41 boarded a bus to travel to Pittsburgh for the festive program held at the William Pitt Union ballroom. Among our group was Csongor Kisfaludy, an exchange student from Hungary currently studying at Youngstown State University. All those in attendance agreed that it was a wonderful program and dinner. Congratulations to the Hungarian Room Committee of the University of Pittsburgh and the WPA for organizing such a gala event. I thank all those who helped get our group to Pittsburgh, especially the officers of both sponsoring groups. We appreciated their help and the special recognition we received during the event. Thanks also go to Maria Goda and to Frank and Mary Schauer for taking reservations and arranging for the bus. Congratulations to the Rev. Alexander Krupa who, at the age of 90, passed his United States citizenship test. Many happy returns to all those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries this month. Heartfelt prayers go out to all who have recently lost a loved one. Insurance questions? Call Alan Szabó at (330) 797-5057.
