Branch 13 Trenton, NJ By Elsie H. Radvany Branch 13 Secretary Branch 13 held its annual election of officers and family Christmas party on Sunday, Dec. 12, at the American Hungarian Democratic Citizens Club. Branch President Frank J. Radvany called the meeting to order and welcomed the members present. Secretary Elsie H. Radvany read the minutes, and Treasurer Anthony C. Beke submitted the treasurer’s report. Both were accepted. President Radvany read the names of 20 members who passed away during the year. He also stated that National Director William Kovach, former National Director Michael Hegedűs and former National Auditor Emma Beganyi passed away during 1993. The members stood for a moment of silent prayer in memory of the deceased. President Radvany submitted a brief resume of events the Association and Branch 13 conducted during the year. The branch honored 35 of its 50-year members who were over 75 years of age with a luncheon, and the branch again prepared a Thanksgiving basket which was delivered to the Trenton Rescue Mission for the benefit of the needy and homeless. The election of officers was held and the following were unanimously reelected: President Radvany, Vice President Joseph Hamari, Secretary Radvany, Treasurer Beke and Controller Margaret Hamari. Stephen Barnacz installed the newly elected officers. President Radvany extended Christmas and holiday greetings on behalf of the National Officers, Board of Directors, National Auditing Committee and branch officers. Following the meeting everyone enjoyed a delicious buffet. Christmas stockings filled with many goodies were distributed. The fraternal fellowship that followed was enjoyed by all. Branch 13 extends sincere thanks and appreciation to the Association for its contribution to the Christmas party. Sincere thanks are also extended to the entire committee who helped make this event a success. For servicing your insurance needs, please contact Elsie H. It’s hard to believe that another year has slipped by. Branch 14 had a very busy year, hosting a day at Sea World and its annual Christmas party. Almost 200 Branch 14 juvenile members and their families attended the Christmas party Dec. 11. They enjoyed a delicious breakfast and were entertained by Jasper the Clown and his assistant, Casper, and Rudolph, who was a big hit with all the children. Special thanks go to Branch 14 member Marge Kiss who donated a $100 Toys-"R”-Us gift certificate to be raffled. Of course, the highlight of the party was the appearance of Santa who brought a fantastic variety of gifts. Even a snowstorm didn’t discourage Branch 14 members from attending this marvelous party. Our sympathies are extended to the family of Darlene Pozywak who passed away recently. It was always a pleasure to see Darlene, her son Richard and her family at the annual Christmas party. The new year will bring an exciting year of Branch 14 activities. We are planning a "night at the races” in the spring. As soon as a date is determined, it will be in the William Penn Life. Please call Branch President Dawn Ward if you are interested in this activity. The next Branch 14 meeting will be held Wednesday, Jan. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at 4116 Rockside Road, Independence. Please plan to attend and help plan the year’s activities. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH By Kathy Novak Branch 28 Reporter Happy 1994! May all our readers enjoy a healthy, happy and prosperous new year. With the help of the Home Office, we were able to host another successful and enjoyable Christmas party for the children of the branch. The group was entertained by Cuddles, Buttons, Curly and Sandy, four performing clowns who are members of the area’s Aut Mori Grotto organization. This organization is a volunteer service group whose fees for entertaining are used to buy health supplies for facilities and individuals who require financial aid. Santa Claus (Chris King) arrived in time to distribute the gifts and award raffle prizes. Among the adult prizes were William Penn items donated by the Home Office and a Hungarian tree ornament donated by Magyar Marketing. Children’s prizes were McDonald’s coupon books. A delicious buffet luncheon was also served. Among our welcome guests were Irene Nemeth’s grandchildren, Michelle and Ken, and her great-granddaughter, Kayla, visiting here from the state of Washington. A great big "Thanks” to everyone who helped plan, prepare and work for this annual event. Members held a short meeting following the party to elect the branch officers for 1994. Elected were: Steve Sándor, president; Steve Novak, vice president; Irene Nemeth, secretary-treasurer; and Kay Novak and John Kaluzcky, auditors. Kathy Novak will continue to serve as branch reporter. Congratulations to all. Best wishes to everyone celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. Branch 44 Akron, OH By Elizabeth K. Darago Branch 44 President Ho! Ho! Ho! And Happy New Year! The family holiday party in December was a huge success. Lynn Sims, a professional storyteller, related tales of princes and princesses on white horses, talking mystical fish, seven and seven rivers, kings, dazzling castles and majestic rainbows—all Magyar fairy tales translated from Hungarian for our members at the holiday party. Santa (Branch Vice President Joe Nasvadi) stopped in to deliver gifts to the junior members. Wow! Basketballs and footballs, teddy bears and stuffed dinosaurs, board games, battery-operated gifts, baby toys to "hug-andcoo” and teen "take-along” sixpack soda pop coolers and sunglasses. "Chugga-chugga toot-toot.” Did you see the train? Follow it to the buffet luncheon with a wide array of dishes brought by Branch 44 members—salads, casseroles, hot vegetables and desserts—plus meat and cheese trays, bread and beverages supplied by William Penn. Everyone enjoyed the yummy food and the fraternalism of the afternoon. A big "Branch 44 thanks” to the Home Office for supporting the holiday party and for providing the song books, coloring books, sponges, pens and calendars. Congratulations to Branch 44 Auditor Helen Eberhardt who was honored in November by St. Edward’s Retirement Village and Nursing Home for volunteering more than 500 hours in 1993.
