A number of both golfers and non-golfers walked away with one of the many door prizes given away. The luckiest of all was Irene Nemeth of Branch 28 Youngstown, Ohio, who won the evening’s top door prize: a golf getaway weekend for two. The prize included a two-night stay at the Ramada Inn-Shenango and 18 holes of golf at the Tam O’Shanter Golf Club. Winners of the evening’s other raffles were National Director Anthony C. Beke, who won a beautiful handmade afghan; Ed Vig, who took the top prize in the basket of cheer raffle; and Chairman of the Board Joseph P. Arvay, who won the portable television which went unclaimed during the annual putting contest. After the raffles, the level of excitement grew as the time drew closer for the auction raffle for a new set of golf clubs and bag. The members-only auction produced many groans from the losers as they were eliminated from the contest. It also produced one big cheer from the eventual winner, Ruth Toth, wife of National Director Elmer W. Toth. The auction raffle was an appropriate ending to a weekend which began in high spirits at the golfers reception Friday evening. The reception area of the Ramada Inn was filled with golfers and guests eager to start the weekend. Everyone enjoyed a delicious buffet which included kolbász, cold cuts, pizza and an array of homemade pastries and cookies. After all had their fill, President Vargo opened the annual putting contest. For a $2 donation, guests received three chances to sink a putt. Everyone who sank at least one ball received a small prize. The big winner at the putting contest, however, was the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation. The contest raised $516, all of which benefitted the scholarship fund. Special thanks go to National Auditor Margaret Boso who contributed $50 to the contest, even though she didn’t putt. The tournament’s hole sponsorship program raised an additional $2,600, all of which benefitted the scholarship fund. We wish to thank all of the members, guests, hole sponsors and employees who, each in their own way, helped to make the tournament a great success. Ruth Toth was all smiles after she won the auction raffle at the golf tournament banquet held July 25. (Photo by Louis A.
