Branch 88 Rural Valley, PA By Joseph Chobody Branch 88 Reporter Branch 88’s monthly meeting was held Dec. 2. Plans for the family Christmas party were finalized and nomination and election of officers for 1990 were held. Those elected were: Dennis Cho­body, president; Thomas Hell­­gren, vice president; Alex Cho­body, secretary-treasurer; and Geno Cicchiani, Dave Kovach and Steve Krecota, trustees. The family Christmas party was held on Dec. 17 at the club social hall. Those attending were treated to music by Nick and James Buffone. Treats were given to all the youngsters by Santa. Thanks to all the officers who helped and a special thank you to members J. J. Maffei, Sam Peace and Judy Jewell. Everyone had an enjoyable time. The Branch 88 annual party will be held Feb. 25. Good food and good times highlight this yearly event. Don’t miss it! Branch 132 South Bend, IN By Frank J. Wukovits, Sr. Branch 132 President The Branch 132 Annual Member­ship Dinner Dance held by the William Penn Social Club on Dec. 2 was a memorable event enjoyed in the fraternal spirit by all present. The usual free cock­tail hour preceded a delicious Hungarian meal of baked chick­en, tarhonya, fresh vegetables and pastry. Dancing followed till the early morning hours. Our annual Christmas party held Dec. 16 in the William Penn Hall was thoroughly enjoyed by the children, their parents and their grandparents. The program opened with greetings from Branch President Frank J. Wukovits Sr. This was followed by the singing of Christ­mas carols by all present. Well­­known magician Tom Zoss enter­tained the audience with a fine program. After singing more carols, a very much welcomed Santa (Scott Lehmann) greeted the chil­dren and presented them with candy and their choice of toys. Refreshments, ice cream, pota­to chips, soda pop and other goodies were served by Santa’s helpers: Maria Burus, Helen Pécsi, Michele Horvath, Isabel Hupka, John Burus and National Director Frank J. Wukovits Jr. After group picture taking, nice door prizes were won by James Stuer, Laura Czajkowski and Joshua Hinds. The Christmas spirit carried over to the evening when branch officer, committee members and their spouses gathered for the annual Christmas dinner. They enjoyed some good, food and refreshments and wished each other good health, happiness and prosperity in the new year. Branch 132 held its election of officers for 1990 on Dec. 19. Elected were: Frank J. Wukovits Sr., president; Alex J. Horvath, secretary-treasurer; Kenneth Wentland, social fund treasurer; Joseph Bertolan and Duane Can­­field, auditors; Msgr. Elmer Peter­son, chaplain and librarian; and Frank J. Wukovits Jr., controller. Branch 150 Masontown, PA Branch 150 and the Pal’s Citizen, Social and Athletic Club held a joint Christmas party at the Pal’s Social Hall on Dec. 17. Among the 177 children at the party were 36 young members from Branch 150. The children had a good time as they sang Christmas carols, played games and enjoyed re­freshments and soft drinks served by the Pal’s Ladies Auxiliary. Santa Claus and Frosty the Snowman arrived to the chil­dren’s delight, and gave each child a treat consisting of an orange, an apple, a popcorn ball, cracker jacks, an assortment of candy, a coloring book, crayons and a Christmas carol book. Both children and parents had a good time. Branch 150 officers attending the party were Vice President Joseph Dalnoky, Coordinator and Secretary-Treasurer Louis Jesso, and Auditor Julius Jesso. Branch President Louis C. Nagy Sr. was sick and unable to attend. Auditor William Dunham was also not in attendance because he was out of town. Branch 159 Phoenixville, PA By William Kovach Branch 159 Coordinator Our 11th Annual William Penn Christmas Party was held Dec. 10 in the social room of the Parkside United Church of Christ in Phoenixville. Branch Coordinator Bill Ko­vach welcomed everyone on be­half of the National Officers. He also urged everyone to remember to contribute to the Association’s scholarship fund because it pro­vides much needed assistance to many of our members, including some from Branch 159, who are going to college. The children enjoyed playing games, which were coordinated by Eugene Leisyu and Jim Kovach. We were all entertained by magician David Lutz and his assis­tant Jenny Smith with musical numbers and magic tricks. Santa Claus, portrayed by Branch President Robert Kovach, presented gifts and candy to the children and gifts to the mothers. Refreshments were enjoyed by everyone. Branch 168 Palmerton, PA We extend our best wishes to John Gyermeli who is retiring as Branch 168 coordinator after ser­ving in that position for 43 years. Mr. Gyermeli, 83, is the father of five children. He also has 36 grandchildren and great-grand­children. We thank him for his many years of dedicated service. Branch 189 Alliance, OH By Mary Hull Branch 189 Reporter On Dec. 10 we held our annual Christmas party for the children of our branch. Entertainment was provided by students from the Rosemary Popovich School of Dancing. There was also a special visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus (Mr. and Mrs. Denny Albert) who spent a moment with each child, listening to his or her special wish. Each child was given a large bag of goodies. Afterwards, we all sang carols and enjoyed refreshments. We wish to thank our Home Office for their assistance in making the party a success. On Dec. 23 our branch held its election of officers. Retiring Branch President Wilbur Taylor presided over the meeting with assistance from Jerome Hamby. Officers for 1990 are: John Jones, president; Karen Hoover, vice president; Kathy Schafer, secretary; Robert Kelly, treasur­er; and James Douds, Mary Hull and Jerome Hamby, auditors. We wish to thank Wilbur and Geraldine Taylor, our retiring president and secretary, for all they have done for our branch. Best wishes for many happy and healthy years of retirement. Branch meetings will be held on the first Saturday of each month at 1:00 p.m. unless stated otherwise. William Penn Club members decorated canisters and placed them with 42 merchants in Alli­ance in order to raise funds for the John Silmak Shelter for the Homeless. A total of $1,400 was raised to buy mittens, gloves, boots, shoes and clothing for the children and adults. Santa Claus made a special visit to the shelter to listen to each child’s Christmas wish. A New Year’s Eve party was held with new officers serving as hosts. Pigs in a blanket, spare ribs and sauerkraut were served at midnite. Cheese balls and snacks were placed on tables and a bar served guests through the night. Wilbur and Geraldine Taylor were presented with tokens of appreciation for jobs well done.
