Branch 18 Detroit, MI By Barbara Ann House Branch 18 Secretary I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who helped to make our Easter basket donation effort such a great success. The response was tremendous. Our deepest sympathy to the Frank and Mary Kato family on the death of their infant greatgrandson Kyle May. We are so very sorry. You are, as always, in our hearts and prayers. The vice president of the Ladies Auxiliary has just one function to oversee—our annual Mother’s Day card party. It was held on April 30. It took a lot of work, but we made it another success. I would like to thank the following special people for their help: For helping to set up, Frank and Eleanor Kender, Rudy and Irene Korpák, Louise Vespremi, Bill and Betty Kocsis, Mary Boka, Marge Benke and Club Manager Steve Szatmári; Runners Irene Korpák, Rose Krumm, Louise Vespremi, Darlene Montgomery, Betty Kocsis, Mary Boka and Julie Benzie; Annie Leny and Julie Benzie for working in the kitchen, putting all our member-donated baked goods on plates and cleaning up later; Branch officers Steve Szalai, Ernie Ecsedi and Frank Kender who helped some of our ladies by serving dessert and coffee; And the same group plus Tom House for taking down all the tables and restoring our club to the way it should look. It always takes one special group to put on an affair like this, and we sure have ours. Thank you very much. If I missed someone, I’m sorry. I couldn’t have done it without you. By the time you read this the national bowling tournament will be only a memory. I can hardly wait to see you all. Hope you all bowled well. Special congratulations to our Branch 18 local bowling champs. W illiam Penn # 1 bowling champs are Livonia Home Improvement. Members on that team are Jim Conciatore, Frank Kulczyk, Mary Tirpák and team captain Emma Toth. Livonia Home Improvement is owned by Frank Tima, auditor of Branch 18. William Penn #2 champs are Pam and Dennis Bell, Brenda Bettinger and Dan Mexico. Hope to see all teams back next year for the 1990-91 season. Enjoy the summer and stay healthy. Our membership meetings will resume in September, as will the Ladies Auxiliary. Please give some thought to getting involved in your club. You are the reason why we’re here. Branch 34 Pittsburgh, PA By Barbara Kapinus Branch 34 Coordinator and Christine Eitel Graduation took on a new meaning for the Eitel family this year. Members are to bring their own table service, lawn chair and any of the following: vegetable dish, casserole, salad, fruit, fresh vegetable munchies and dip, pasta or rice dish, or dessert. Kolbász, potatoes and a simmering pot of goulash will be provided by the branch. Your spouses and family members are welcome. On Aug. 12 our branch is sponsoring a one-day bus trip to Wellsburg, W.Va. to coincide with the 68th Annual William Penn Home Festival. Cost for the bus trip is $ 15 per person. Reservations will be on a first-come first-served basis. Send your money in early. (See reservation form in this issue.) A 50-year member luncheon is being planned for September. Members of the planning committee are Marilyn Darago, Helen Eberhardt and George Naswadi. Anyone having suggestions on the program or who would like to help should contact Marilyn as soon as possible. We want this to be a special event for everyone able to attend. The treasurer’s report was presented and approved at the meeting. A special thank you was given to our loyal Branch 44 members who have generously donated money to support our 1990 local activities. After the meeting, members adjourned to the dining room where refreshments were served buffet style. Members then watched a 55 minute tour of Hungary via a brand new color video entitled, "Hungary: Land of Hospitality.” This is an excellent video for a branch meeting, and it will be available for other branches to use. Please call Marilyn Darago at (216) 673-3347 for more information. At the conclusion of the film, a drawing was held for two Hungarian cookbooks donated by our William Penn representative, Alan Szabó. The lucky winners were Edith Naswadi and Theresa Varga. Remember to call Alan at 848- 3431 if you have any questions about your insurance needs.
