Tipton Branch 383 Buffalo, NY Branch 129 Columbus, OH By Arpad Sibrik Branch 129 Coordinator The ladies bowling teám from Columbus is looking forward to the national bowling tournament in Pittsburgh. Branch 129 will have 10 to 12 members cheering the ladies along and to take part in the Saturday night banquet. Our men bowlers let us down; they couldn’t get a team together. Better luck next year. Plans are underway for the July 7 national golf tournament at Steeplechase Country Club. This promises to be a great tourna­ment. The course is in excellent shape and a blacktop cart path has just been completed on all 18 holes. Brand new Yamaha gaso­line engine golf carts will be avail­able for our golfers’ pleasure. The Hilton East Hotel will be the headquarters for the golf tournament. The Hilton is lo­cated on Hamilton Road at Inter­state 70. It is very accessible and can be seen from the interstate, from east or west. The William Penn’s Columbus sales office was closed on April 30, 1990. Branch 226 McKeesport, PA From the Daily News McKeesport, PA Mary Zang, a member of Branch 226 McKeesport, was recently selected the 1991 Miss Dance of Pennsylvania from a field of 31 competitors for the title. Daughter of Branch 226 mem­ber Eleanor Zang, Mary is a senior at Serra High School. She has studied dance for 11 years with Ken and Jean Phifer, recipients of the Dance Masters of Pennsylva­nia 1990 Spotlight Award in recognition of their many contri­butions to the world of dance. Mary is also a student assistant teacher at the Phifers’ studio. She was the recipient of the Pennsyl­vania Governor’s School for the Arts scholarship last summer. Mary has been awarded a schol­arship from Butler University in Indianapolis, where she will major in dance. She will partici­pate in the national competition for the title of Miss Dance of America this summer in St. Louis. We at Branch 226 are proud of Mary and wish her the best of luck. Branch 296 Springdale, PA By Ron Balia Branch 296 President In March our branch hosted two workshops with the Alle-Kiski Literacy Council. Breakfast and lunch were served. Both days were very well attended. We had made plans to have a dance in April, but those plans were cancelled. However, we are going ahead with our picnic plans. We will have our picnic on Sun­day, Aug. 19, starting at 2:00 p.m. at the Assumption Church Picnic Grounds in Leechburg. We hope the weatherman will cooperate with us that day and that many of our members will help us organize the picnic. We will not have a meeting in June, but we will hold our first bacon roast of the year. This is always a fun time for all the members who attend. See you at the tournament. Branch 352 Coraopolis, PA By Dianne A. Charles Branch 352 Reporter Congratulations to all individual and team prize winners at the 47th Annual National Bowling Tournament. A big thank you goes out to the following Branch 352 members for their recent donations to the William Penn Fraternal Associ­ation Scholarship Foundation: Elmer and Barbara Furedy, Fran­ces Furedy, Ruth Furedy, Thom­as A. Goetz, John Hedtke Jr. and James Kramer. Your generous donations are appreciated. To all of our 1990 high school and college graduates our best wishes and congratulations. May all of your dreams for the future come true. But now is the time to think golf. Tipton, son of Mitzie Tipton Lewis, has com­pleted his basic U.S. Marine Corps training of 12 weeks at Parris Island Recruit Depot in South Carolina, graduating with Company A, 1st Battalion. PFC Tipton earned his Rifle Expert while in training and has been nominated for placement in Pensacola, Fla. for a school per­taining to special military duties. PFC Tipton is a member of William Penn Branch 383 Buffa­lo. His family resides in Roswell, Ga. He is presently assigned to Camp Geiger in North Carolina, a division for the school of in­fantry for basic marine combat training. He is the grandson of Michael and Mitzie Fodor of Roswell, Ga. Branch 8057 Verona, PA By Mary Dialoiso Branch 8057 President On May 9 a mass in memory of all deceased members was cele­brated by the Rev. Msgr. John J. Seli. All members attending re­ceived a corsage or flower from Sara Conte. After the service we all gathered in the activities hall for a social, organized by Olga Carbonera and Nellie DeLiberto. On May 15 we enjoyed a bingo lunch cruise and shopping trip to Wheeling, W.Va. For our June 13 meeting we will gather for lunch at the Village Inn. Meeting time is 1:00 p.m. Future events include a trip to Wildwood in August and a Carni­val Fantasy Cruise in September. Happy Birthday to all our members born in May and June. Gert Pope is home and doing well. We miss her at the meetings. We hope all mothers had a happy Mother’s Day. Happy Father’s Day to the men this month. Branch 8149 Swissvale, PA The members of Branch 8149 will help operate a booth at this year’s St. Anselm’s Church Festi­val, to be held June 20 to 23. Our branch will also host a card party in October at the church. Our next branch meeting will be held on the first Monday in September. Branch News Branch 8164 Steubenville, OH The members of Branch 8164 gathered April 23 for a mass to celebrate St. George’s feast day at St. Anthony Church in Steuben­ville. After mass all enjoyed a dinner in the church hall. The Rev. Robert Mascolino, chaplain, served as general chair­man for the event and as celebrant for the mass. Albert DiFalco served as dinner chairman. The Rev. Walter Heinz, pastor of St. Anthony’s, was the excellent master of ceremonies. The tables and hall were deco­rated in orchid and yellow stream­ers and balloons. The floral centerpiece in the same colors was later won by Ann Vecchione. Juli D’Aurora was chairwoman for decorations and was assisted by the officers. President Peter Buffone wel­comed the 72 guests in attend­ance and presented 50-year membership honors to Francis Antinone, Alfred Carfagna, John Cortez, Sebastian Grossi and Michael Vecchione. Louis Fodor, chairman of the National Auditing Committee and coordinator of the Ohio Val­ley District, offered greetings on behalf of the National Officers and Board of Directors. The main speaker was Joseph Miller, former Supreme Presi­dent of the former Catholic Knights of St. George. Mr. Miller urged the members to become involved in their communities and stressed the fraternal edge program which makes our society special amongst insurers. Dinner music was furnished by Dorn Orlando, accordionist. The evening was dedicated to the honor of Msgr. Paul Richter, the devoted and loyal chaplain of our branch for 55 years. All present enjoyed an evening of fun, love and brotherhood. Branch 8243 Wellsburg, WV By Lisa P. Jones Branch 8243 Secretary Branch 8243 met May 1 to dis­cuss branch business and the upcoming William Penn Home Festival. The Home always re­ceives enthusiastic help and coop­eration from the employees. It was decided that our branch will sell tickets for a 50/50 raffle to raise funds. The drawing will be held on Aug. 12 at the Festival. The William Penn Home bowl­ing team would like to thank Branch 8243 for sponsoring the team. The team is eagerly antici­pating the William Penn national bowling tournament in Pitts­burgh. Good luck, everyone! We would like to welcome Carol Wilson as a new branch member. Our next branch meeting will be held July 10 at 3:30 p.m. We hope to see all our members there and at the Festival Aug. 12.
