Branch 18 Detroit, MI By Barbara House Branch 18 Secretary Branch 18 was proud to host a recent informal dinner-dance in honor of Dr. Jeno Rande, general secretary of the World Federation of Hungarians in Budapest, Hungary. Dr. Rande was to visit other William Penn branches during his current stay in the U.S. Attending our branch’s dinnerdance were National President Stephen G. Danko, National Director Stephen J. Ivancso from Toledo, Ohio, and Advisory Board member Stephen Danko from his winter home in Florida. Steve and Judy worked very hard getting all the great food out in a reasonable amount of time. Thanks again, it was delicious. Music was provided by Emil Jacob. A nice time was had by all. Irene Gall Korpák is still recuperating from her surgery. It is taking a little longer than she would like. She would like to thank everyone she has heard from. The cards and letters sure do help. As of this writing, Branch Vice President Andy Toth is in University Hospital in Ann Arbor undergoing back surgery. 1 hope that by the time you read this he will be back home. I know he would like to hear from all his many friends. Hang in there, Andy. We love you. The Ladies Auxiliary held its annual card party on April 25. A report on the party will appear in my next report. We have many functions going on at the club — wooden platter dinners, golf tournament, bowling, etc. For more information on these and other events, please consult our club newsletter or call Pista at the club. I know by now all the bowling teams are ready and raring to go at the South Bend tournament. Get your banquet reservations in as soon as possible, as space is limited. I do hope as William Penn members we are planning to take part in all the activities. Happy Mother’s Day everyone. Pista is serving at the club. Please call for reservations. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sárközi of Somerset, N.J. The championships were held April 8 to 10 at the C. T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH By Helen R. Kaluczky Branch 28 Reporter We at Branch 28 would like to dedicate this column to our men and women in the armed services, both living and dead. It is appropriate in the month of May to remember them as well as their parents who nourished them throughout the years of their childhood, adolesence, and ultimately, in their adulthood, and then watched them go, leaving a void in our lives that time never heals. When we salute the flag at our bowling tournament Memorial Day Weekend, let us remember and pray that "killed in action” will be forever erased from the face of the earth. Branch 44 Akron, OH By Elizabeth K. Darago Branch 44 President The Spring Fling meeting of Branch 44 was held April 10. A travelogue which included a 30 country world tour by videotape was enjoyed by all. The very colorful and beautiful travel scenes had all present ready to pack their bags and hop on a plane to lie on a beach, ski a mountain, or just sit back and enjoy the foreign scenery from an outside cafe. Refreshments were served, and especially enjoyed were the Hungarian delicacies which were freshly baked by Mrs. Theresa Varga. Meetings for the remainder of 1988 were planned. The dates are: June 12, Aug. 14, Oct. 9, and Dec. 11, 1988. Members are asked to circle these dates on their calendars and plan to attend the activities for those dates.
