A reminder that summer — and all our branches’ outdoor affairs — are almost here. Branch 189 Alliance, OH By Mike Du rutty a Branch 189 President It is with great sadness we, of Branch 189, announce the passing of John A. Bárány. We extend our sympathy to his wife, Ann, and to his sons, John and Tom. John A. Bárány was a past president of Branch 189, and a former club manager, and sat on the board of directors as club secretary of Branch 189. He will be greatly missed by us here at Branch 189. Sympathy also is extended to Betty (Duruttya) Katona of San Bemadino, Calif., at the passing of her husband Bob Katona. Mr. Katona was a past president of the Bloomington Magyar Club. He and his wife, Betty, were very active in the Hungarian doings in San Bemadino. He was a past president of the Bloomington Bowling Club. Mr. Katona is the brother-inlaw of Margaret (Duruttya) Korosy of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and of Mike Duruttya of Alliance, Ohio. His passing has made a very sad dent in our hearts. We have two social events scheduled at our William Penn Club in the month of May. The first is the A.C. dinner dance to be held on April 23 at 6:30 p.m., with dancing at 9 p.m. Reservations must be in by April 20. The second event will be the social dinner with reservations to be in by May 10. The dinner will take place on May 14 at 6:30 p.m. Please remember to make your reservations for both events promptly. Congratulations to Zoltán Cibulas for being the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, which was awarded to him by the company where he is employed as a chemist. We sincerely hope all had a very Happy Easter. With Easter over, the Easter Bunnie is taking a rest before his very busy season next year! Branch 249 Dayton, OH By Albert G. Kertesz Branch 249 Coordinator Saturday March 26, our branch held it’s annual awards banquet at St. Stephen’s Hall. On this occasion we honored our current 50-year members with a presentation of the William Penn Association 50- year pin. Those present to receive the pin were Irene Bush, Margaret Hergo, Michael Hergo, Jr., William Mitchell, Esther Sopronyi and Michael Sopronyi. Frank Kraska was in attendance to receive the pin for his mother Julia, who was unable to attend due to illness. It was heartwarming to see the excellent turnout of family members of the honored recipients; an indication that fraternalism is indeed a family affair. Recipients unable to attend will be receiving their pins through the mail. The other phase of our evening’s celebration was the awarding of trophies to various members of our branch bowling league for their achievements during the past bowling season. All those in attendance had a very enjoyable evening. This occasion also presented the opportunity to formulate the bowling teams which will represent our branch at the bowling tournament in South Bend. The bus has been chartered, entry fees submitted, and hotel and dinner reservation cards forwarded. The group is looking forward to an enjoyable weekend. On April 8 our branch, in conjunction with St. Stephen’s Parish, held a fish-fry at St. Stephen’s Hall. The function was well attended in view of the fact that it was organized rather quickly. However, all those in attendance had a fun-filled evening and asked about when the next fish-fry will be held. Our thanks go out to all the workers who assisted in the success of these past two affairs. For your life insurance needs feel free to call me at 275-6654.
