Following the noon Mass, branch members gave certificates of enrollment to the new altar boys and certificates of recognition to the choir members who were to graduate from the 8th grade at All Saints School. Representing the Home Office was Executive Vice President John F. Kenawell and his wife Linda. Also attending were Mr. Peter Kuhn and District President and Mrs. Joseph Schmidt. After the church program, all were invited to the activities building for light refreshments and donuts. The district meeting was held following the affair. Branch 805 7 Verone, PA Branch 8057 had an enjoyable and interesting meeting on May 13. The meeting was held after our belated Mother’s Day celebration with a covered dish. The event featured a Mother’s Day cake donated by Branch Secretary Betty Tuccillo. It had a red rose decorating it, which was given to the youngest member, Margaret Bruno. At this meeting, the branch elected Augustine Carbonara a branch treasurer. President Mary Dialoiso opened the meeting with a prayer. Our June 10 meeting was held in a picnic-like fashion outdoors. At this meeting the branch discussed operating a booth at this year’s Mount St. George Family Festival to be held Aug. 9. Our next meeting will be on July 8. m Branch 8113 Lucinda, PA The members of Branch 8113 met June 16 at which they presented donations to the local Little League team and the altar boys trip. Plans were also completed for the July 4th festival. The branch’s meeting night has been changed to the third Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Please make note of this. Branch 8114 Clarion, PA Branch 8114 President Robert Walter reported that 240 women attended the branch’s Ladies Breakfast held May 3. Mr. Walter thanked all those who helped make this breakfast a success, including the men who helped set up the day before. Entertainment was provided by local school children. Mr. Walter also asked for a volunteer to chair the parish picnic in August. He also announced that the annual Steak Fry will be held Sept. 13. Branch 8121 St. Marys, PA At its June 3 meeting, Branch 8121 appointed John Marconi to arrange for the 1988 Communion Mass and breakfast as near St. George Day as possible. The branch also finalized plans for its July 26 meeting and picnic to be held at St. Mary’s Grade School. In other business, the branch voted to make a $ 10.00 donation to the Mount St. George Home cable television fund. Branch members also discussed the upcoming Family Festival and began making plans to arrange for a mini-bus to take members to the festival. Branch 8149 Pittsburgh, PA By Marie Boyle Donahue Branch 8149 Reporter We had our Communion Day on May 17 at the Plaza Restaurant in Forest Hills, Pa. From June 16 to 20, branch members helped operate a booth at the Festival Days at St. Anselm’s in Swissvale, Pa. Betty Slattery was chairman and Kathryn Serene co-chairman. Members also are making plans to run a booth at this year’s Mount St. George Family Festival on Aug. 9. On Oct. 19, our branch will hold its annual card party. Everyone is welcome to attend. At our June meeting, local attorney Ken Gormly spoke to our group about wills and other legal matters. Branch 8155 Steelton, PA By William T. Miller Branch 8155 Secretary/Treasurer The Rev. Edward C. Malesic offered his first Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church in Enhaut, Pa on May 31. The homilist was the Rev. Msgr. Hugh Overbaugh, a member of Branch 8155. Four members of our branch served as ushers. They were Stephen Sipos, William Miller, Stephen Taljan and Anthony Kempf. Branch members also helped to decorate the cafeteria for the reception which followed the Mass. Branch 8164 Steubenville, OH Members of Branch 8164 attended in May a Mother’s Day Mass at St. Anthony’s Church followed by breakfast in the rectory meeting room. Pete Buffone presided at the meeting and the chaplain, the Rev. Paul L. Richter, offered the invocation. The Rev. Walter Heinz and National Auditor Louis A. Fodor gave each woman a gift. Mr. Fodor spoke on the upcoming Mount St. George Family Festival to be held Aug. 9. Sebastian Grossi and Albert DiNicola were appointed to serve on the festival committee. The branch extends its thanks to Julia D’Aurora and Matilda Maier for arranging the breakfast. All branch members send get well wishes to longtime former Branch President Albert Antinone who is in St. John’s Medical Center recovering from a stroke. The next meeting of Branch 8164 will be on Sept. 13. Branch 8222 Pittsburgh, PA Elizabeth Stoner, a member of Branch 8222, was selected by Bishop Anthony Belivacqua of the Diocese of Pittsburgh to serve as a facilitator for the diocese at the recent National Black Catholic Conference. She was one of 1,500 delegates from 110 diocese attending the congress held in Washington, D.C. Elizabeth was accompanied by her husband William. She presented a report on the congress at the branch’s June meeting. During that meeting, branch members donated supplies for the beauty shop at the St. Joseph Home. Our members also passed a motion to present the Rev. Frederick Becker, chaplain at the Mount St. George Home, with a cash gift for his 60th anniversary in the priesthood. The branch also made further plans for the funnel cake booth it will operate at this year’s Mount St. George Family Festival on Aug. 9. Branch 8286 Philadelphia, PA The Association recently extended a much-needed helping hand to the St. Vincent’s Orphanage. The chapel at the orphanage was heavily damaged by fire. In the true spirit of fraternalism, the Association made a generous donation to restore the pews in the chapel. We at Branch 8286 join with Fr. Spaeth and all at St. Vincent’s in thanking the William Penn for making such a benevolent gesture. Fr. Spaeth also thanked the members of our branch for their $200 donation for Hungarian refugees. The branch also donated $500 to Fr. Spaeth for his 45th anniversary in the priesthood on June 7. Branch 8290 Youngwood, PA By Arthur E. Robinson Branch 8290 Secretary We recently received news that George Kochis has graduated from Hershey Medical School with honors and has begun an internship at Latrobe Hospital. He is the son of Mrs. Mary Kochis and the late George Kochis, former president of Branch 8290. We send him our best wishes for continued success in his chosen field. We are sorry to report the recent death of George Uhrinek, one of the oldest members of our branch. May his soul rest in peace.
