June 1987, William Penn Life, Page 11 Branch News Branch 18 honors dedicated officers Branch News By Julia Danko Branch 18 Reporter DETROIT — Branch 18 proudly reports that their Illustrious Awards Banquet and Dance Concert by our William Penn Association Dance Group was a huge success. Approximately 400 members and friends attended the affair held April 26 at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Allen Park. We congratulate our Branch 18 dance group for their outstanding performance, especially for the original Hungarian village wedding for which they received a tremendous standing ovation. The Branch 18 dance group will be leaving for Hungary July 10. We wish them great success in their performances there. The Illustrious Awards were given to Mrs. Betty Kocsis, Andy Toth, Stephen P. Danko and James Lochinger for their faithful 15 years of service as Branch 18 officers. The awards were presented by National Secretary E. E. Vargo, Chairman of the Board Stephen G. Danko and National Director Stephen J. Ivancso. In August, Branch 18 will honor our 50-year members and show our appreciation to all the helpers at our Illustrious Awards Banquet with a free dinner at the William Penn Social Club. Branch 18 Ladies Auxiliary had their annual card party on April 27 at the Social Club. This successful event featured prizes for all and delicious home-baked pastries. As we were all preparing to go to the national bowling tournament in Toledo, we were hoping all our bowlers would do well. We hope some Branch 18 bowlers will be among the list of winners in the July issue. We wish everyone a happy and safe summer. We send special wishes for a speedy recovery to Branch 18 Auditor Frank Kender. Br. 8020 members recognized Branch 8164 STEUBENVILLE, OH — Branch 8164 met May 10 at St. Anthony Rectory Meeting Room. Chaplain Msgr. Paul Richter spoke to the group about Mother’s Day and the church gave all the mothers at the meeting pink carnations. National Auditor Louis Fodor presented an update on the national bowling and golf tournaments and the upcoming Mount St. George Festival. Five branch members volunteered to help out at the Festival. On Oct. 24, members will make their annual pilgrimage to the Shrine of the Immaculate Con-Br* 13 couple celebrates their 50th anniversary TRENTON, NJ — Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vágott of Whiting, N.J., will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on May 15 with a cruise to Bermuda. Both are members of Branch 13. Mr. Vágott is a 50-year member of the William Penn. Mrs. Vágott has been a member for 46 years. The couple were the guests of honor at a dinner hosted by their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Peter L. Butchon. The Vagotts have two grandchildren, Mrs. Michele Rossi and Michael Butchon. Mr. Vágott is a retired employee of General Motors in Ewing Township, and Mrs. Vagott is a retired employee of Union Best Test in Trenton. We wish the Vagotts many more years of happiness together. Branch 8155 STEELTON, PA — Branch 8155 recently donated $50.00 to the fund for sick and retired priests. Branch members also recently agreed to help replace ceiling tile at St. John’s School. Several branch members were to attend the national bowling tournament in Toledo. Plus, the branch will make a donation to the Knights of St. George Home cable television campaign. McKEES ROCKS, PA — Members of Branch 8020 were recognized for their outstanding service to the branch and the greater community at two recent affairs. On April 25, Branch President Bill Arbanas was honored during the local Volunteer Recognition Luncheon for his 12 years of service on the Board of Directors of the Robinson Developmental Center. Among those applauding him for his work were leaders of the area’s civic, community and church groups. Representing Branch 8020 were Vice President Nick Kotik, Mrs. Vera Arbanas, Charles Arbanas, branch member and State Rep. Fred A. Trello. Mr. Arbanas received a special plaque recognizing his outstanding service and a certificate of appreciation. On May 3, the branch presented awards to nine children selected as winners in the Easter Book Coloring Contest. Each winner received a $5.00 cash prize. A number of children attending C.C.D. classes at St. Francis De Sales Church in McKees Rocks Branch 8326 SMITHTON, PA — The winners of Branch 8326’s Easter Egg Contest and their parents were invited to the branch meeting April 26 to receive their awards. Branch 8095 UNIONTOWN, PA — Branch 8095 met May 10 to discuss plans for a picnic to be held Aug. 9 at St. Anthony’s Friary. Games and entertainment will be on the program. A short business meeting was held following the presentation. Branch 8037 BEAVER FALLS, PA — Branch 8037 met April 5 to discuss plans for its upcoming Anniversary dinner. The dinner will be held June 2 at the Red Bull Inn. Baltimore District branches plan activities for 1987 By Terry M. Tishner Baltimore District President BALTIMORE — Members of Branch 8330, assisted in the Annual Dundalk Health Fair held April 8 at the Physical Education Building of Dundalk Community College. Baltimore area branches also recently announced their schedule of events for the remainder of 1987. On May 31, Delegate District 44 will meet at St. Rita’s Church to elect delegates to the Associaception in Washington, D.C. Details on the pilgrimage will be published in parish bulletins. Sunday, Nov. 8, will be the date for Branch 8340’s Memorial Mass and Breakfast for deceased members. Mass will be at St. Rita’s. More details will be released later by the branch secretary. Branch 8330 will hold its Annual Christmas Bazaar on Nov. 22 in St. Rita’s Auditorium. All proceeds from the bazaar will support the branch’s Thanksgiving and Christmas projects, the Supper Table and needy families in the area. On Dec. 6, Branch 8340 will hold its annual election and installation of new officers, followed by its " 100” Club party. Proceeds from the party will support fraternal and charitable projects. Branch 8330 will hold its annual election and installation of new officers on Dec. 18. The meeting will be followed by the branch’s annual Christmas party.
