Our local branch has designated June 7th as the date we will celebrate the William Penn Association Centennial Anniversary. We hope that members and friends from central and southwestern Ohio will join with us to make this a memorable area celebration. More information will be published regarding this in the next issue. Anyone interested in information pertaining to the William Penn Centennial Tour to Hungary from this area, may contact me for assistance and arrangements. We hope to have good representation as we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the William Penn Association and the 35th year of “Music of Hungary” program on radio. These are scenes from the annual Christmas party held by Branch 249 in Columbus. Santa’s presence was a highlight of the occasion. Branch 8 Johnstown, PA The William Penn Association, Branch 8, Johnstown, Pa., held its election of officers December 8, 1985 in the Social Hall of the Johnstown- Windber Hungarian Reformed Church. Re-elected by acclamation for President of Branch 8 was Vera Petruska; Elizabeth Buckshaw as Vice-President; Elaine Petruska as Secretary; Steve Petruska as Treasurer; Elizabeth Maurer and Ida Sipos as Auditors. Branch 8 meetings are held every second Sunday at the Social Hall of the Johnstown-Windber Hungarian Reformed Church, corner 9th Avenue and Chestnut Street, Johnstown, Pa. All Branch 8 members are welcome. After the installation of officers, the branch held its Annual Family Christmas Party with Santa arriving with his merry and cheery Ho! Ho! Ho! Later Santa sat by the Christmas tree and the children whispered to him what they wanted for Christmas, besides their money gifts and carol books. All the while, the children and their parents were busy enjoying refreshments and conversing with one another. Santa was really enjoyed by all. The officers of Branch 8 wish to thank the Board of Directors for their generous allocation toward the Christmas party. Branch 8 tries to show these lovely children, that the William Penn Association really believes in their future. A prosperous and happy 1986. Fraternally, Steve and Vera Petruska Branch 8048, Latrobe, PA By Eugene Chinchock, Reporter A specially prepared turkey basket was packed by Lee and Vera Martin, members of Branch 8048 and was personally delivered by them to a needy family during the Thanksgiving holiday. Lee and Vera purchased the groceries and arranged the basket. This was one of several such efforts by the branches and the Home Office in assisting those in need. The Martins received a thank you note from the family that received the basket delivered by them. The note read “Thank you for the beautiful basket of food for Thanksgiving. It will be greatly appreciated. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you and to all of you, a very Happy Holiday.” And the branch extends a special thank you to the Martins for getting the basket together and delivering it in time for the holiday. It’s people like the Martins who help make our Association the great organization it is.
