This year we instituted a personal telephone call from Santa to some of the children in the branches, talking to the children and reminding them of the Christmas party. This proved to be very successful and we will attempt to expand on this next year. FOUR BRANCHES—Presidents of four branches at the annual Christmas party held in West Mifflin, include, from left, John S. Toth, Sr., Homestead; Roger Nagy, Duquesne; Elmer Furedy, Branch 352 and 39; and Michael Kara, Branch 34. Elected for the year of 1986 are President, Mike Duruttya; Vice President, Karl Trumpeter; Secretary, John Barany; Treasurer, Zoltán Cibulas; Trustees, Wilbur Taylor and Richard Fetters. The officers were sworn in by Mrs. Gene Warne, daughter of President Duruttya. Prior to the election, a moment of silent prayer was held in memory of deceased members and also social members of Br. 189, who are sadly missed by us all. Our gratitude to Mrs. Zoltán Cibulas and her daughter, Kathy, for the delicious refreshments prepared for the members, which we enjoyed after the election. Again, dear “ole” Santa came to visit our humble place in Alliance, known as the William Penn Club!!!! Coming into the room with a big, "HO HO HO! Merry Christmas! Children I want you to meet Mrs. Claus. I brought Mrs. Claus along so she could see how busy I am and why I am so late getting home to the North Pole every night!!!!!!” Santa, Mrs. Claus and the children sang, "Jingle Bells,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” and “Away in a Manger.” As each child sat on Santa’s lap, Santa listened very carefully for each child’s wish. When Santa asked one little girl if she was good, she replied honestly and said, “No, but I started to be good two weeks ago!” Some of the requests by some of the children were: Cabbage Patch dolls, Superman collection, one little girl wanted to go to college, a little boy wanted his two front teeth, another boy wanted a pony in his stocking and one of the hardest requests Santa said would be rather difficult to fill was the the request of a little boy who wanted a baby sister!!!!!! A smile and tear came to Santa’s eyes, when a little boy said, “Here, Santa, I have a gift for you.” He handed Santa a small banner that said, “Merry Christmas to you, Santa.” Santa told the boy how happy he was to receive the gift and he will treasure it always! Mrs. Claus helped Santa by giving each child a bag of goodies. Continued on page 12 colunn 1 9 CHURCH (Washington Road at Castle Shannon Blvd. in Mt.
