William Penn Life, 1982 (17. évfolyam, 1-4. szám)

At this time the 29th William Penn National Bowling Tournament is past history. No doubt it was a success, as the people in Cleveland were always known as friendly and congenial hosts. We enjoyed our visits there that left us with many fond memories. We’re glad to hear that next year’s tournament will be hosted by the Detroit Branches, a very active and dedicated group, who can make things happen. Locally, on Saturday, May the 8th, The Philadelphia Hungarian Club sponsored an evening in memory of its first President, Peter Wlosak, in appreciation of the many years of dedicated service that he gave to the Club. It was through his and his wife Betty’s tireless efforts that helped the Club survive, when it was most needed. Betty and members of her family were also present at the affair. Pete was also President of William Penn Branch 76 for many years. I had the privilege to Branch 76 Philadelphia, Pa. (Continued from Page 19) McNamee, Myrtle R. Willette, Emile J. Duhamel. Our best wishes to both for a speedy recovery. Also, another good friend and long time member, Sophia Jursky, has made good recovery from her recent illness. We wish to extend our most sincere sympathy to the family of Steve Sable, a member for over 53 years, who passed away recently after an extended illness. We are asking our members to contact our Branch Manager, Steve Szemes, for all your insurance needs, or data on your current policies. Telephone: 543-8876. I regret that I cannot claim another victory for the William Penn team and our record now stands at one out of three in that department. Our team is made up more in the spirit of true fraternalism from members of the branch, rather than the recruiting of known marksmen from the outside. This is the largest shoot in one day in the State of Wisconsin and this year was about average in attendance as just over a thousand shooters took part. The members shown are, from left to right, Mike Wald, Steve Wald, Wayne Wagner, Darlene Wagner and Jack Lippert. One of the 1982 events promoted by the Wisconsin Fraternal Congress was a gathering of over 10,000 fraternalists for a Flag Day ceremony at the Milwaukee County Stadium on June 13th. The event was a baseball game played by the Milwaukee Brewers and the Detroit Tigers. A pre-game march on the field and a flag presentation was participated in by the many Wisconsin fraternal groups present. The day was bright and sunny, a perfect day as a matter of fact for the local club soundly defeated their guests from across Lake Michigan. Milwaukee and Wisconsin learned the large number involved in fraternalism by the size of the crowd in the lower grandstand, and, as the names of the societies were read on the public address system and flashed on the electronic scoreboard.
