Minutes of the Board of Directors Quarterly Meeting Minutes of the Second Quarterly Meeting of the Board of Directors of the William Penn Association held on Monday, June 14, 1982 in the Board Room of the Home Office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 1) National President and Chairman of the Board, Elmer Charles, opened the meeting at 10:15 A.M. He welcomed the Board of Directors and National Officers to the June meeting. He particularly welcomed National Vice President, John P. Balia, happy to see him present and in good health following his recent hospitalization. Mr. Charles hoped he will continue to serve the Association in good health. Mr. Charles also welcomed Director Albert G. Kertesz following his hospitalization. The Chairman stated that June is a very important month. Today is a very important day in the history of our country and our Fraternal Association. On June 14, 1887, Flag Day was first officially observed in Stony Hill, Wisconsin. Many states, cities and towns are also observing this week as Fraternal Week. The emphasis of our meeting should be on Fraternalism. Our concerns and future plans for our society and other societies should be toward Fraternalism. The Chairman stated it would be in order to pass a Resolution honoring and commemorating the birthday of our flag: It was not until President Truman's administration that Flag Day was designated as a national holiday. President Wilson was the first President to recognize what took place at Stony Hill and this is what President Wilson had to say about the flag: "This flag, which we honor and under which we serve, is the emblem of our unity, our power, our thought and purpose as a nation. It has no other character than that which we give it from generation to generation. The choice is ours. " This is so well put that being Fraternal Week, we could accept under the same principals the fraternalistic responsibility that we have and that we should honor our society and all societies during this week. Mr. Charles extended birthday greetings to the following: Elmer Charles, National President; Louis L. Varga, Vice President; Albert J. Stelkovics, Director and former National Secretary-Treasurer; Frank J. Radvany, Director and Secretary of the Board. The Chairman announced the following had been hospitalized since the last meeting: John P. Balia, National Vice President; Audrey Emri, wife of Director Zoltán Emri. He reported the following deaths since the last Board meeting: Mrs. Margaret Kovács, wife of former Director Andrew Kovács, M.D.; John Gober, Illustrious Member, Branch 28, Youngstown, Ohio. The members rose for a moment of silent prayer in memory of all deceased members. The Chairman stated the Agenda is prepared and he officially called the meeting to order. 2) The members rose and pledged allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. 3) Vice President, Louis L. Varga, offered the following invocation: Our Father, we thank you for your love and for the many good things you have given us personally and for our Association. You have given us the patience, courage and fortitude over the years which finally resulted in a favorable disposition of our property. We are happy and proud of this achievement but we remain humble for we know that without your help, it would not have been possible. May the benefits enure to our members. We thank you for the encouragement and wisdom you gave us as we tried to form one great and united Hungarian Fraternal and Benefit Society. We commend our Committee and Officers who worked hard, honorably and sincerely for its success; but we will not complain that our plan was not attained, for we know that we have done our part, in our era, to fulfill this age old dream of Hungarian unity. We are disappointed because a great opportunity has been lost—but we will not be discouraged for to be discouraged takes away the will to progress. Lord, our God, we know how great Thou art, yet we know that our wishes and prayers are not always fulfilled. Lord, you are the source of life and goodness and we will continue to seek your aid. Guide its Officers and this Board as they strive for brotherly and sisterly love, progress and peace among its members. 4) Secretary of the Board, Frank J. Radvany, called the roll and the following are present: National President, Elmer Charles; National Vice Presidents, John P. Balia and Louis L. Varga; National Secretary-Treasurer, Gus G.
