This year 68 students applied and 61 were selected to receive grants. The Officers and Directors of the Scholarship Foundation congratulate all of these students, especially the 20 new applicants who received awards for the first time. Some of the new recipients are pictured. We urge all members to continue to support the Scholarship Fund and also that all William Penn Branches, their Officers and Members who with various activities raised funds so the scholarships could be granted for the 1980-1981 season. My association with the William Penn started March 1951 with what was known as the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association—Branch 439 located in Johnstown, Pa. At that time John Bencze was our National President. I worked under National President Elmer Charles, who then was Field Supervisor of our district. Branch 439 merged with Branch 8, one of the oldest branches in the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association (A Sick Benefit Society) Branch 8 was organized Sept. 18, 1898. I was appointed Asst. District Manager Feb. 1952 till July 31, 1958. During this time period, 1 sold $311,000.00 worth of insurance. I rejoined the William Penn Association in January 1972, as Branch Manager of Branch 8, this time period, 1 sold $359,583.00 worth of insurance, also reinstated approximately 300 of my former policy holders. I am married 26 years February 6 to the former Vera Zugrovics. Steve Petruska Branch 14 Cleveland, Ohio We at Branch 14 will hold our annual Christmas party on Sunday, December 14 beginning at 2:00 P.M. All members are invited to this social event where there will be refreshments for all to enjoy. To entertain the children we will have once again Choo- Choo the clown, who works wonders with balloons. And of course no Christmas would be complete without the visit from that jolly old fellow Santa Claus. The officers of Branch 14 are looking forward to seeing you there. Well our softball season has come to an end with our team making an admirable showing for being their first year. We ended up in fifth place in ■. league with 8 teams. Our record ended up with 8 wins and 13 losses. Keep your eyes on us next year when we have experience under our belt. Despite the wet weather we encountered for our summer picnic we had a fantastic turn out. For a while we thought we would have to build an a. k instead of dancing to the music of the Frank Borisz Orchestra. But as soon as he started playing the sun started shining. Everyone who attended can verify that it was well worth getting a little wet for. Just a reminder to our members: Our monthly meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month. As an added feature we are having guest speakers at our meetings. At our November meeting we had a speaker from the East Ohio Gas Company who spoke to us on how to save energy and money by following a few simple rules around the house. This is mainly a social meeting. We would like to see more members attend and join in on our plans for the coming year. Robert Stypa President, Branch 14 Branch 15 Chicago, Illinois On your mark, get set for the coming 1981 Bowling Tournament. It will be held at the newly renovated Holiday Bowl in suburban Norridge. The Hospitality Room will be available on Friday night from 8:00 P.M. to 12:00 midnight. More later as things develop. Until then, hoping to see you there. Your Chicago Committee Branch 16 Perth Amboy, N.J. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we will not be able to have a Scholarship Dinner-Dance this October but it has tentatively been re-scheduled for early in the spring. Again this year we are sponsoring a bowling team on the Avenel Bantam- Junior Bowling League. We wish the boys the best of luck.
