Branch 1 32 South Bend, Indiana On Saturday, April 19, 1980, more than 400 William Penn members and friends attended a Testimonial Dinner- Dance held at the South Bend William Penn Hall, in honor of four Branch officers who served 15 years or longer. Also honored at this banquet were four retired Ladies Auxiliary officers who also served for many years in promoting fraternalism, brotherhood, and Hungarian Cultural and Social Activities. The officers honored were Messrs. Alex J. Horvath, Joseph Horvath, Leslie J. Molnár and Paul Varga. The Ladies Auxiliary officers honored were Mrs. Elizabeth Cifra, Mrs. Elizabeth Egyházi, Mrs. Julia Lacay and charter member of the auxiliary, Mrs. Joseph Sari. The festivities opened with a men’s choral group under the direction of Mr. Geza Budinsky, leading the audience in singing of our National Anthem followed by singing of the Magyar Himnusz. The invocation was given by Rt. Rev. Msgr. John S. Sabo, Pastor of Our Lady of Hungary Parish. After a delicious dinner prepared and served by the present Ladies Auxiliary, Branch President, Mr. Frank J. Wukovits, Sr., welcomed the guests and thanked them for their participation to pay their respects to the Honorees. He then intorduced the Master of Ceremonies for the evening, Mr. Frank J. Wukovits, Jr., who then proceeded to introduce the guests at the head table. He then called on the Honorable Roger O. Parent, Mayor of South Bend to say a few words; in his speech emphasized the importance of the ethnics in the community such as the William Penn Association, promoting, serving and preserving Hungarian culture and unity. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Illustrious Citations by Mr. Albert J. Stelkovics, National Secretary and Treasurer. Mr. Stelkovics congratulated the honorees emphasizing the importance of their work and many years of dedication and mentioning that South Bend, Branch 132 was one of the strongest supporters of the original fund for crippled children. He further stated that the Association in 1979 awarded 50 scholarships and that several Branch 132 members were recipients. He also discussed the 150 acre Penn Scenic View development in the beautiful Larel Mountains of Pennsylvania, where the association is establishing a Youth Camp to foster Rt. Rev. Msgr. John S. Sabo, Pastor of Our Lady of Hungary Church, giving Invocation. Mr. Frank J. Wukovits, Sr. welcoming the guests.
