He was pleased to have served as the Chairman of this Committee and extends thanks par­ticularly to Andor Eross, Dr. Lajos Nagyivan, Dr. László Lorincz and Francis Kish who were the organizers of the Mindszenty Committee. Mr. Varga expressed thanks to all the organizations, Churches and Civic Groups which joined in this noble ven­ture. Mindszenty Square is the immediate area about St. Emery’s Church, and was proclaimed Mindszenty Square by First Selectman John Sullivan and Town Clerk of Fairfield, Mary Katona. Pictured below is the Mind­szenty Memorial and Fr. Denes Szocs, Franciscan Provincial, Mrs. Louis Varga, Mr. Louis L. Varga and Fr. Robert Nemeth OFM, Pastor St. Emery’s R.C. Fairfield, Conn. Bridgeport, Conn. St. Emery’s R.C. Church in Fairfield Conn, was recently the scene of an Ecumenical Services. Participating in this memorial to the late Cardinal Mindszenty were: Rev. Robert Nemeth, Pastor, Rev. Denes Szocs, Bishop Walter Curtis, Rev. Dr. Havad­­toy, Pastor U.C. of C., Fairfield, Rev. Emil Nagy, Pastor, First Church of Christ, Bridgeport and Fr. László Orosz Greek Rite Catholic Church, Bridgeport. After Church services Mr. Louis L. Varga, Chairman of the Mindszenty Memorial Committee, National Vice President of William Penn Association at the dedication of Mindszenty Square thanked all of those who helped make Branch 8 Johnstown, Penn. The William Penn Association of Pittsburgh, Pa. presented a check for $1,000.00 to each of the two Hungarian Churches in the Cambria City section of Johnstown which were severely damaged in the July 1977 Flood. National Secretary, Albert J. Stelkovics presented the checks to Father Thomas Maher of St. Emerich’s Hungarian R.C. Church, corner 6th and Chestnut St. and Rev. Arthur An­tal of the Hungarian Ev. & Reform Church, corner 9th and Chestnut St. It all started when Branch 8 Manager of the Johnstown District notified Mr. Elmer Charles, President of the Dedication of Mindszenty Square, October 23, 1977 Father Dennis Szocs, Del. Provincial, Mrs. Louis Varga, Louis Varga, Father Robert Nemeth, Pastor of St. Emery Church, Fairfield Connecticut. Rev. Arpad Antal receiving check from Albert J. Stelkovics, National Secretary. William Penn Association of the need to help the two Hungarian Churches that were damaged in the July 77 Flood, he also sent them the Special 77 Flood Edition of the Tribune- Democrat. This convinced the Board of Directors of the William Penn Association to help.
