VOLUME 12 SPRING, 1977 NUMBER 2 NATIONAL BOWLING TOURNAMENT AND SCHOLARSHIP DAYS Shortly after this issue is published, many William Penn Bowlers and nonbowling William Penn members will be heading towards our Nation’s Capitol for a great fun-filled week-end. This is to inform all members that the headquarters hotel has been changed to: HYATT REGENCY WASHINGTON, New Jersey Avenue and “D” Street N.W., Washington, D.C., only two blocks from the Nation’s Capitol Building. The change had to be made in order to assure our members excellent accommodations and plenty of room for our banquet and dancing to follow. The Hyatt Regency Washington is a new Hotel, is near the White House, Lincoln Memorial, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the U.S. National Museum, Washington National Monument, the Smithsonian Institute, it is only two blocks from the OFFICIAL NOTICE In compliance with the by-law requirements of the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation, Inc. I hereby call the ANNUAL MEETING of members for Friday, May 27, 1977 at 6:30 P.M. in the Hyatt Regency Washington, Washington, D.C. Purpose of the meeting is to elect Directors and to transact any other business which may properly come before the meeting. All members, who have paid their membership dues to December 31, 1976 are eligible to attend the meeting. All Branches of the William Penn Association which have paid their annual dues to December 31, 1976 are eligible to send one representative. Branch Managers please notify Albert J. Stelkovics, Secretary, 429 Forbes Ave., 5th Floor, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15219 the name of the Branch representative and the alternate representative. Elmer Charles, President Visitors Center at Union Station. This 10 story high, 900 room hotel is truly in the center of Washington, D.C. historic landmarks. This headquarters hotel will allow all of our members to do plenty of sightseeing while attending this National Bowling Tournament. Because of the long week-end it will be an excellent opportunity for many parents to bring their children so that they can become acquainted with their Nation’s Capitol. For those who will be flying to Washington, the National Airport is only 15 minutes away, Dulles airport 45 minutes away. Those who are driving can easily reach the Hotel, because it is just off 1-95. There are three restaurants plus an entertainment lounge. The week-end festivities will begin with the annual meeting of the William In previous issues of William Penn Life we have outlined in detail the plans which have been made to again have the William Penn Association sponsor a charter flight to Hungary. With the sponsoring of these trips the Association’s Officers and Directors have only one thing in mind, namely to provide our members an opportunity to visit the country of their birth, or for those who were born in this country to visit the land where their parents and grandparents came from. Long before others were seeking their roots, we were providing our members an opportunity to visit the land of their ancestors, to see and witness those villages and towns, festivals and music which they heard so much about from their forebearers. The William Penn provides this opportunity at the lowest possible cost. Penn Association Scholarship Foundation Inc. (see official notice elsewhere in this issue) at 6:30 p.m. The Hospitality Room will be open Friday evening where members and their guests from all over the country can get acquainted and enjoy an evening of fun and fellowship. There will be snacks and beverages available for your pleasure, every William Penn member and their guests are cordially invited to visit the Hospitality Room. On Saturday morning special buses will leave the Hotel for the Fairlanes in Springfield, Va. which is about a 15-20 minute ride on 1-95 south from the Hyatt Regency. Ronnie Karnya, Tournament Secretary, is making all necessary arrangements for the scheduling of teams. Management of the Fairlanes has (Continued on Page Three) In addition to the charter flight, preparations have been made for two landtours, the participants can select the one which may bring them closer to the places where their forefathers migrated from. Tour No. 1 is the Trans-Danubia Tour (Dunántúl) and Tour No. 2 is the Northeastern section of Hungary. The Charter Flight via Pan-American World Airways leaves Greater Pittsburgh International Airport the evening of WEDNESDAY, August 17, 1977. Departure time will be announced later. Flight will arrive in Budapest, THURSDAY, August 18, 1977, airfare is $415.00 per person adult or child, this cost is subject to fuel adjustment charge.
