DETROIT "CHAMPAGNE BALL" HUGE SUCCESS Greetings fellow members and I shall begin this bulletin to announce that our second annual “Champagne Ball” was a huge success last February 15th. It was a sellout and several persons had to be turned away much to our regret and theirs as well. Nearly 400 guests turned out for this gala affair and when it was all over every morsel of that good Hungarian food and pastry was gone. The champagne flowed freely along with the other refreshments. The two orchestras of Joe Balint and John Vespremi provided continuous entertainment and during the evening everyone took part in a good old fashioned singa-long, and there were many hoarse people by the end of the evening. A multitude of door prizes were given away by President Stephen Danko. A great big “Thank You” goes to all of those grand Ladies who worked for two days, cooking and baking and also serving the guests, also “Thanks Fellas” for the work you did decorating the hall, tending the bar and greeting the guests. It is people like these that makes William Penn members the “fraternalists that they are”. The pictures shown here will attest to the good time that was had by all and already we are planning our next big affair for next year. (You other branches throughout the country, take note of this type of affair, and follow suit. It is the type of event that brings all good fraternalists together.) ATTENTION Branch 18, 56 and 500 bowlers. If you wish to take part in traveling to New York as a group to the annual Fellowship Days next May, contact Stephen Danko or Julia Danko at their home by phoning 287-8035. We are flying to New York for the low fare of $53.55 round trip. You do not have to be a bowler to take part in this group flight but you must be a member of William Penn. The seating is limited so don’t wait too long or you will be left out. At this writing it is anticipated that we will have ten teams going to the Tournament and all team captains are urged to complete their entry forms and mail them in immediately. We would like to welcome Mr. James Hill our new Branch 18 Agency Manager. We had the opportunity to meet Mr. Hill at the Champagne Ball and were quite impressed with him. Welcome to our group Jim and we wish you the best in your new venture as Agency Manager. Mr. John Veszprémi, Sr. is now home from the hospital after suffering from a heart attack and we hope to see his familiar face at our monthly meetings in the very near future. It was good to see a few old faces at our meeting this month, namely past National President Julius Macker and Louis Csordás. We would like to see more of you absent Guests enjoying themselves at Champagne Ball. American music provided by John Vespremi £ and His "Naturals". members at our monthly meetings. This is your branch and you should take part in its activities. Our condolences are herewith expressed to the families of the following William Penn members who passed away during the past month: Mrs. Ann Sorovetz, Walter Reitz, Andrew Gatesy and Joseph Angyal. Congratulations are in order for Mr. Stephen Úsztok, our branch Field Representative for bringing in 98 new William Penn Members and Steve has always been one of the Top Five agents in the nation, and now brings our total membership for Branch 18 to 4095. Our special agents should be commended too for their excellent work. The combined efforts of this team resulted in a total of 111 new policies being written during the past year. The ladies auxiliary cookbooks are still available and please direct all of your orders for the books to Mrs. Margaret Veszprémi or Mrs. Julia Danko as shown elsewhere in this publication.
