9). * * * Treatment and utilization of liquid manure obtained from large-scale hog farms by L. NÉMETHY, С. E. Liquid manure obtained from large hog farms may cause heavy environmental problems if not treated. At the same time, this valuable organic matter - indispensable for succesful agricultural production - goes discarded. As a consequence, liquid manure must be not only neutralized but made fit for utilization. This double requirement was satisfied by and adequate differentiation of the phases during which 1 m 3/hog stable organic manure could be retained annually and the remaining liquid phase with a dry material content of 0.6 percent was disposed according to the desired method of irrigation after storage, or in a continuous operational process. The AGROBER-type liquid manure treatment method (Fig. 1 ) consists of the following items: 0.4 m 3/d stable manure per hog retained and stored for 60 days while the liquid phase was irrigated after storage during 75 days. Its tools are: a phase-separating tower made of steel (Fig. 2), a filter-wall made of straw-bale, and a reservoir constructed for enduring storage (Table I). The two main parts of the KEVITERV-system (Fig. 3) are: the air-pressurized drawer ( Fig. 4) and the straw-filter with a large surface (Fig. 5). Separation of the liquid phase is started in the drawer and is then directed immediately towards the irrigation plant with a stable material content of only 0.6 percent, or towards the reservoir by aid of a simple diverting valve. The stable phase with a stable material content of 11 percent went to the straw-filter (Tables II and III). A system is presented by the author in Fig. 6 developed after elimination of the faults and problems of the two - previously presented - liquid manure processing schemes, while preserving their advantages. The central part of the system is the phase-separating tower (Fig. 7). The basis for solution is given by the daily material balance of a simple liquid manure treatment plant (Fig. 8). A handy method for saving water is recycling of the liquid phase used afterwards for delution. By a hydrophore mounted on the reservoir basin of the liquid phase, and by a purposeful transformation of the diluting tanks, the problem could be easily resolved. Biological treatment of the liquid phase is not conceivable but this can be introduced in extraordinary situations. A good possibility was offered for biogas production with liquid technology from the high organic content of the stable phase. If the fermented liquid compost was carried over a KEVITERVtype straw-filter, stable bio-manure could be retained that was easily preservable for a longer time-period, till it could be most efficiently used (Fig. 9).
