145 RIVER BASIS DEVELOPMENT (Summary) Along with the advance of Bocio-economic progress and fitting in to the system of economic development there will be an increased need to meet the socio-economic demand associated with water resources by means of the uniform areal development of water management that is of river basin development. River basin development is not meant simply tobe an aggregation of the areal developments of water-related special activities but ams at the areal development of a uniform system consisting of these special activities and their connections and interactions. Accordingly, in the publication the conception and the management system of river basin development i.e, of a process spanning over a long period are outlined. The objective of river basin development is to provide a continuous equilibrium within the whole basin hetween water resources and the broadest socio-economic demand for water, equally in space, time, quantity, quality and energy content. In this context in the course of socio-economic progress it should make possible both the optimum utilization of natural water resources and the protection against their damages within the whole basin.
