Az 56 m magas víztoronyra egyrészt azért volt szükség, mert a városi víz nyomása nélküle nem volt elegendő, másrészt, mert egy esetleges gyárbeli tűz esetén az üzemi vízvezeték nyomását tudták növelni vele.
