Soccer gaining popularity among i Cleveland Verhovayans A noticeable number of the spoi'tsminded in the younger groups of Verhovay members in Cleveland have embraced the sport of soccer, known also as association football. One of the most enthusiastic promoters of this sport is a member of Branch 14, one Paul Farkas, who, although handicapped, has shown how enthusiasm and perseverance can overcome most obstacles. His sports leadership is recognized thruout Verhovay Cleveland. On April 1st the Cleveland Verhovay soccer players defeated the, Lions Football Club by. a score of 2-0. These same players journeyed to Buffalo, New York for an Easter Sunday match against their Verhovay brethren there. They won again, this time 3-1 and 5-1. But the Buffalo Verhovayans, altho chagrined, are vowing that! when they go to Cleveland for the return match on April 24th they will give the 14-ers a real soccer trouncing. Arriving in Buffalo, the Clevelanders were met by District Manager Kalman Erdeky, who forthwith took the group to member Charlie Young’s l-estanurant, where a delicious dinner was served them. Next: day it was Niagara Falls. The Cleveland soccer players are) planning a grand evening of dancing Saturday, Aprils 23d, in the hall of the Verhovay Home. There will be prizes and a beauty queen will bel selected. Admission will be 75 cents. The proceeds, of course, will go into tty team fund. According to the Branch 14 soccer players, there is still room in the inn for more association football, team members, and an invitation to join is extended to those who can I>lay the game. .
