April 29, 1943 Page It Verhovayak Lapja Considering that up to now already, 3000 members are serving in the Armed Forces and as a result the increased death risk is incalculable, the Actuary suggests that the Association do not pay dividends until a clear picture can be obtained of the risk assumed as a result of the War. The Actuary also calls attention to the decrease in income from investments. After a lenghty and detailed discussion, the Board announces that they refer the final settlement of this question to the Convention to be held in September. However, until then, they also order that the amount, which each member entitled there to under the conditions in effect last year, would receive, this amount be placed in a separate Fund until the Convention decides this question. This resolution concerns the Junior as well as Senior Order members. 33. ) During the discussion of the Real Estate investments of the Association the Board hears the report of Director Moses Csömör in the matter of the Granite City Home. The Board requests the membership of Branch 187 in a friendly manner, to do everything possible for the growth of their Home. 34. ) Being a final and firm decision of the Board that the Home Office be established in their own premises, they enpower the Building Committee (Ari, Brogley, Macker) to find a suitable building for purchase. 35. ) The action taken in the case of former Aged Home inmate Joseph Risko is approved by the Board. 36. ) Being occupied with the reinstatement of members serving in the Armed Forces, the Board brings the following resolution: “The Board announces that every soldier member of the Association who is in arrears with not more than six (6) monthly dues, may be reinstated to their former rights without the medical examination prescribed by the By-Laws upon payment of their monthly dues in arrears, on condition that the relatives paying dues for them, certify in writing that according to their best knowledge, such soldier member is alive and well and if in their written statement they expressly renounce the amount of the insurance in the event that the respective soldier member dies during the time he is in arrears and before the date of the statement.” 37. ) In the matter of the possible military service of members belonging to the Junior Order, the Board decides, that: “Inducted members of the junior order paying 15 and 25 cents monthly dues may remain members of the Junior Order even after they have attained the age of eighteen (18) years provided that they pay 25 and 35 cents monthly dues and for which, they will be insured for $150.00 and $250.00 respectively. This concession is effective for the duration of the War and for six (6) months thereafter. After that, they will cease to be members of the Junior Order and under the prescribed conditions they may transfer to the Senior Order, on the basis of their ages at the time of application for transfer. If however, as a result of their state of health then they cannot be accepted into the Senior Order, they may remain membsrs of the Junior Order and for 25 and 35 cents dues monthly, they will be insured for $100.00 and $200.00 respectively.” 38. ) The Board fully accepts the reports of the Supreme Officers. 39. ) Upon the request of Director James Siket, President of Branch 83, the Board announces in the case of Joseph Hattayer’s appeal, member of Branch 394, that Joseph Hattayer may be reinstated to Branch 83. 40. ) The Board readily complies with the request of the Associated Hungarian Weeklies in the matter of the Official Journal. 41. ) The Board discusses the appeal of Branch 292 in the matter of the Death Benefit case of Matyas Gyenes. The Board directs the Home Office to issue the Death Benefits. 42. ) The Board approves the action taken by the Home Office in the matter of the Sick Benefit case of John Furdos, member of Branch 412. 43. ) The appeal submitted by Balint Balazsik, member of Branch 347, also concerning Sick Benefits, cannot be complied with by the Board, in accordance with the By-Laws. 44. ) The Board reads the complaint of Charles Young, member of Branch 383, in the case of the election of District Delegates. The Board cannot consider the complaint since Section 23 of the By-Laws states that “no member shall serve as an officer in more than one Branch”. At the same time, the Board establishes that the Branch always has the right to recall its elected District Delegate and for this reason, the Board approves the action taken by Branch 121 in this matter. 45. ) In the matter of the appeal from the Sports Committee of the Cleveland Branches, the Board orders the Home Office to take action in this case according to their best knowledge on the evidences of the respective minutes. 46. ) The Board cannot comply with the request of Emery Gaal member of Branch 209 since they are unable to alter the conditions established for the monthly dues concession. 47. ) The Board discusses the request of Alexander Nyirati, President of Br. 236, and they find being incompetent in this matter since the editorial subjects of the Official Journal are by the By-Laws dealt with. 48. ) The Board considers the complaint of Louis Hernitz member of the Auditing Committee and they decide that he will remain a member of the Auditing Committee until he resignes it. 49. ) The Board approves the action taken by the Supreme President that in accordance with the By-Laws, the President took care to replace two members of the Auditing Committee at the passed auditing, since two members of the Committee were unable to fill their obligations. 50. ) The letter of Member John Pocsik, recording-secretary of District 29 in read and since the Supreme Secretary has already given the information relative to the per diem fees, the rest of the letter is noted. The Board expresses their thanks to member Pocsik for carrying the assured future growth of our Association so close to his heart. / 51. ) The board discusses the appeal of Branch 296 of Springdale, Pa., in the matter of purchasing a Verhovay Home. They hear the detailed report of the Building Committee as well as the report of Director Kun, concerning the business activities of the Branch in the past and upon the basis of these, they order that the Home Office purchase the building which at present they use as a Verhovay Home on a rental basis. 52. ) The Board reads the letter of John Bokor, President of Branch 142 and they establish that according to the established rules, the District Manager has the right to give a contract to several members at a Branch. 53. ) The Board reads the letter of Ernest Kunstadt, Secretary of Branch 164. It is noted. 54. ) The appeal of the Secretary of Branch 49, in which he asks that the Board cancel the amount sent in cash but not received by the Home Office, cannot be complied with by the Board since under existing regulations, monthly dues cannot be sent in cash in a letter, neither under Verhovay nor under; Postal Regulations. 55. ) In the matter of the complaint of Joseph Bircsak, member of Branch 114, the Board decides that the Branch Secretary must make good the amount short in case said amount is receipted for. 56. ) The Board complies with the request of Bassler and Company, Actuaries, and increase the yearly fee for the actuarial work, with $150.00. 57. ) In the matter of the request of Kalman Palangi, relative to radio advertising, the Board announces that the Home Office take it into consideration and the fund appropriated therefor. 58. ) The Board reads the request of the “Insurance Federation of Pennsylvania” and with a vote of four “nayes” announces that our Association should become a member of this Organization. 59. ) The Board discusses the appeal of Stanley Dewey, member of Branch 343, against the decision of the Plome Office in the matter of his Sick Benefits. The Board approves the action taken by the Home Office in this matter, in which they rejected the claim for Sick Benefits. The Board directs the Chief Counsel to take care of the case. 60. ) The Board determines that the conditions established last year for the assisting of sports and social activities at the Branches was satisfactory and for this reason they do not desire to alter them. ( 61. ) The Board cannot comply with the request of Branches, 388, 429 and 443 in the matter of sports assistance. < ± 62. ) The request of Nicholas Palla, Secretary of Branch 130, is read, in which the matter of sports assistance is mentioned. | In spite of the fact that the Board not only appreciates the truly effective activities of member Palla in the matter of securing new members but also acknowledges same, nevertheless, they cannot alter the conditions and for this reason, they cannot comply with his request. ( 63. ) In the matter of the Detroit Verhovay Club, the Board decides in such a way, that the local House Committee jsettle the matter, taking into consideration the circumstances. ( 64. ) The request of Assistant District Manager Ferdinand Dora is referred to Division Manager Gyulai. 65. ) The request of the Editor of “City-Life” of South Bend cannot be complied with by the Board. ( 66. ) The Board awards the honorary title of “Respected” together with the document and silver medal also, to John Toth of Branch 31 in acknowledgment of his more than three decades of work as a Verhovay officer. With this they wish to give tangible evidence of the fact that they not only appreciate his unflagging zeal but aknowledge it also. 67. ) The Board acknowledges with thanks the report of the American Hungarian Federation wherein they state that the Proclamation, adopted at the September Board meeting, to the People of Hungary, reached its destination through the intervention of the proper American authorities. 68. ) Upon the motion of Albert B. Ari the Board with unanimous enthusiasm announces that not even in thought can they support a movement which is intended to assist the return of the Habsburgs to the throne.
