Page 10 November 27, 1941 Verhovayak Labia lh‘iroi( Sport lites The boys from the Detrcr Verhovay Bowling Team ar still clinging to the top run of the ladder in the Verho vay Bowling League, afte: having already completed one-quarter of the leagu' schedule. But the rest of the way is no bed of roses, and the way the boys have beer getting their strikes there is sunshine in the Verhovay wigwam today. The lads now average around 818 and are striving for that select 850 circle, so don’t be surprised. I told you we have a future Verhovay National Bowling Championship team among the lads, as they are really kegling for all their worth. ■‘The boys on the Detroit team are seeking a few match games with out of toivn Verhovay bowling, teams for the near future, and we icould like to bowl some team within the next month or so, because of the nearness to being selected in the draft by Uncle Sam, and there are two eligibles on the Verhovay team, Mike Szopo and yours truly. So come on all you bending teams, send us a few challenges, c.nd we will promise you a swell time, bowling and otherwise. That was quite a day for the Verhovay lads for they whitewashed our second place rivals in the Verhovay League by taking all 3 games from Lane Service, and so now we are 5 points ahead of our nearest rival. The Verhovay team will bowl in the Michigan State Tournament at Saginaw during the month of January. We are trying to get our whole league to make the journey and vie for some of those cash prizes. The boys didn’t do bad at Lansing in the 1940 tournament. They want to increase their income a little by demonstrating their bowling ability. With lots of strikes and spares till the next time, I remain Fraternally, FRANK A. The league this team bowls with meets regularly on Friday nights at the Champion Alleys in Youngstown. Aside from their games in the league, they have already had a match with the Verhovay girls team of Niles, Ohio. This game was played in Youngstown, and all three lines were won by the Youngstown girls. This, however, is no discredit to the Niles team, because they played hard and well. A return game was to be played at the Recreation Bar in Niles on November 23d, and Youngstown had confidence that they would again win. Ann Bennett of Yoüngstown set the pace for the game against Niles, aggregating 490 pins for 3 games. Pivarnik had 403, Turner had 383, and Baker of the Niles team had 344.
