February 15, 1940. Important Notirr! Notice has reached us that for some inexplicable and incomprehensible reasons, due to changes brought about by the election of new Branch Officers, the former Branch Officers (Secretaries and Managers) will not surrender printed matter, books, documents and other articles constituting the property of the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association, to which the Officers succeeding them are entitled or rather, which the new Officers need. 1 request and caution first of all, those exofficers who for some unaccountable reason hesitate to surrender Verhovay printed matter and other necessary documents to the Officers succeeding them, not to lay themselves open to censure resulting from this matter. Please turn over everything which they know is not theirs, to their lawful successors and not to create obstacles in the functioning of our Association by their behaviour and not to cause unnecessary expenses for the Verhovay General Treasury. In the second place, I request the new Officers that, in the event that their predecessors do not surrender to them the above enumerated Verhovay properties, kindly report this matter to the Home Office at once. Fraternally yours, JOSEPH DARAGO, Supreme President. BRANCH 434, NOTICE Our Branch holds meeting every FIRST MONDAY of the month at seven (7) o’clock at the Verhovay Home, 1024 West Indiana Avenue. Fraternally yours, DAVIS DOBOSY, “CAN YOU TAKE IT?’* BRANCH 434 Verhovayak Lapja Dear Editor: As this is the first time I ever attempted to write a column, I am informing you that I am only an amateur. Please do not criticize this column and I hope that it will appear in the Journal. The reason I am writing this letter is to protest that one-half of the club members seem to possess airs of superiority, which I feel is not right. This is written in a friendly gesture and not the outcome of a grudge; hence it is not my intention to hurt the feelings of anybody. * * * “Kis Sári”: I am sorry to hear that your mother is ill and am wishing her speedy recovery. Why don’t you write into the Journal about the delegates’ going to Granite City. Frank Hoffer is quite a serenader these days, as witnessed at the baby contest in the serenading of Ann Vargo. Someone recently changed his name. Why? Joe Hoffer and Margie are making wedding plans. Here is poor little me alone. Ethel Vargo: Why not make your boy friend a member of the Verhovay? That’s all now, folks. I’ll see you again next month (I hope). THE SAINT. Page 1!
