At the left of the picture is seen a wing of the Hall of Nations behind which rise the towers of the Romanian and U. S. S. R. Pavilions. Jacobs, Pocahontas, Va. Br. 481, Emma E. Phillips, Bellevue, Pa. A suggestion was made by the District President that other matters instead of amendments to the Bylaws be discussed first. 1. Mr. Peter Mészáros of Branch 381, Pittsburgh, introduced the resolution that the Home Office shall organize a new system of Branch collectors. That the Branches shall elect their collectors and if he does not fulfill his duty, he should be removed from office. The motion was seconded by Mr. William Kohut of Branch 430, Homestead and passed unanimously. 2. Mr. Andrew Gombos, of Branch 484, Beaver Falls, made a motion that the Home Office make the Certificate of Election forms for the District delegates, so that they will be uniform. It was seconded by Miss Emma E. Phillips of Branch 481, Bellevue, Pa., and passed by the district session. 3. Mr. William C. Kohut of Branch 430, Homestead, Pa., introduced a motion that the English edition of the Verhovay Journal be published semi-monthly. An editor for the paper could be secured and better publication edited. Mr. Andrew Gombos of Branch 484, Beaver Falls added to this motion stating that a sports page edited by the sport editor could be added to the English edition. The editor could also encourage league organization. This motion was seconded by Mr. Joseph Balogh, Branch 506, Donora, and passed by the district session. 4. Mr. -John Szabó, of Br. 395, McKeesport made a motion that the Association should have an allottment for educational programs as well as sports. This would further the spreading of the Hungarian language and culture. The motion was seconded by Mr. Peter Mészáros of Branch 381, Pittsburgh and passed by the district session. The delegates to the National convention should call to the Convention attention, the results of the Homestead Hungarian School. There can be no question but, that the school was worthwhile and proved educational to all. 5. The next motion was presented by Mr. Joseph Balogh, of Branch 506, Donora, that the delegates of District 32, favor either the buying or building of a Verhovay Home Office in Pittsburgh. This motion was seconded by Miss Emma E. Phillips of Branch 481, Bellevue, and passed unanimously. By having larger office facilities, business could be transacted more efficiently. 6. Mr. Kalman Erdeky Jr., of Branch 502, Pittsburgh, proposed that the delegates favor the Scholarship loan but, change the number of years for parent-membership to the Verhovay from 5 years to 2 years. This motion was seconded by Mr. Joseph Balogh of Br. 506, Donora. The delegates of District 32 suggested that each Br. Secretary should read the policies of each member and verify whether the member was admitted into Sick Benefit Class. A thorough reading of the By-Laws brought forth the following recommendations: 1. We suggested that on page 8, paragraph 3, section 6, should read, “Supreme Officers, members of the Auditing Committee of the Association, members of the Board of Directors, shall be present at the Convention and shall enjoy the same rights and privileges as the representatives.” 2. Chapter II—Section 8, page 11, paragraph 2, should read, “Each Branch having a membership of 15 or over shall have a right to send one delegate to the District sessions.” 3. Chapter IV, Section 11, page 18, paragraph 1, the word, “President” should be added to the department heads and to change the word “three officers” to “four officers shall function in the Home Office etc." 4. Section 17, page 23, shall be augmented as follows: “Each new employee shall have been prior to their appointment at least two years a Verhovay member.” 6. Section 28, page 37, paragraph 5, should be augmented as follows: “Each District Manager upon receipt of a new member should notify the Branch Secretary, giving full particulars.” 7. Section 30, page 44, paragraph 6, should be modified by stating that “one change of beneficiary is granted free”, the other changes are 50 cents. 8. Section 35, page 71, paragraph 5, should be eliminated. The following recommendations were brought forth from the Juvenile Order: 1. Mr. Julius Kovács of Branch 409 Windber, made a motion that we should introduce a 20 year payment-life policy into the Juvenile Order. This motion was seconded by Mr. John Szabó of Br. 395, McKeesport and passed unanimously. 2. A motion was made by Mr. Julius Lenart of Branch 395, McKeesport and seconded by Mr. Julius Kovács of Branch 409, Windber that a Juvenile page be added to the English edition of the Verhovay Journal. At the conclusion of discussing the By-Laws, we elected our delegates to the Convention. The following were elected to represent District 32 at the Convention to be held in Pittsburgh, Pa., in the month of September: Mr. Stephen Balogh, Br. 439 — 28 Cooper Ave, Johnstozvn, pa. Mr. Julius Lenart, Br. 395. 419 31st St., McKeesport, Pa. Mr. William Kohut, Br. 430 — 205 E. 14th Ave., Homestead, Pa. The following were elected alternates: Mr. Peter Mészáros, Br. 381 — 347 Johnston Ave., Pittsburgh, Pa. Mr. Steve Zuro, Br. 442, 697 High St., California, Pa. Mr. John Szabó, Br. 395, 1406 Boquet St., McKeesport, Pa. It was voted to have the next District Session at the Home Office in Pittsburgh, Pa. A motion was made by Mr. Julius Lenart of Branch 395, McKeesport and seconded by Mr. Stephen Balogh of Branch 439, Johnstown, Pa., that the Secretary should receive an additional per diem fee for recording the minutes and sending out the statements. We, the delegates of the 32nd District, wish to thank Branch 395 of McKeesport Room Bureau Set Up For New York Fair NEW YORK (Special)— Two agencies have been set up in New York City to insure World’s Fair visitors getting living accommodations at a most reasonable price. One is the Mayor’s Official World’s Fair Housing Bureau, Inc., with headquarters in the Chanin Building, 122 East 42d Street, set up by Mayor La- Guardia to locate rooms for visitors in private homes and dwellings. The other is the Hotel Room Information Bureau ©f the Hotel Association of New. York City, representing 180 hotels with a total capacity of 80,000 rooms. The bureau is at association headquarters, 221 West 57th Street: Both agencies function without any charge to the visiter in finding him clean and comfortable accommodations at a price within his means. Rooms in private dwellings range in price from $1 per night per person upward, with the average per person $1.50. Every Western Union and Postal Telegraph office is equipped to handle requests for rooms in conjuhetion with the Housing Bureau’s operation. Every policeman in New York City is familiar with the plan and is equipped to give visitors first hand information on methods of obtaining registered and sponsored rooms. On making the application for a room the visitor pays a deposit of 50 cents per night per person for which he receives a receipt. The receipt may be presented to the landlord in lieu of cash as 'part payment for the room. , for the kind hospitality and respect which was shown.
