BRANCH 367 W E L­­COMES TWO MORE DISTINGUISHED MEM­BERS During- the past two years branch 367 at Cleveland, O. has added to its membership more distinguished persons than any other branch in the Association. Doctors, law­yers, professors, judges, city, county and state public of­ficials have joined this branch through the active work of August A. Besenyey, presi­dent of the 33rd Verhovay district. Of the entire list, Governor Martin L. Davey stands foremost. It is now with pride that the members of branch 367 welcome into their fold two more men of outstanding ability serving the Cleveland citizens in the capacity of judges of the Municipal Court of Cleveland. Judge JOSEPH ARTL The members welcome Judge Joseph Artl. Cleve­land citizens have come to know him as a result of his ten years service as a mem­ber of the city council. Due to his integrity and ability as both councilman and law­yer he waá appointed to the Municipal Court Bench of Cleveland last January by Governor Martin L. Davey, a brother Verhovay member. The members welcome Judge Frank Celebrezze. lie also is well known in work in the legal profession. Davey saw fit to reward him for his exemplary work by elevating him by appoint­ment to the Municipal Court Bench of Cleveland last Jan­uary. . Cleveland is well recog­nized as a cosmopolitan city and both of these gentlemen are true representatives of their respective nationality groups. Cleveland Hungar­ians are proud of them and in particular Cleveland Ver­hovay members are now proud to call them “our own.” All Cleveland Verhovay members are happy over their membership in the Ver­hovay and wish them the greatest of success in the fu­ture. May they progress and prosper as the Verhovay progresses and prospers.--------o--------­MARDI GRAS DANCE As a part of its Fall and Winter activities, Branch 395 of McKeesport has com­pleted arrangements for its annual “Mardi Gras Dance.” Due to the tremendous suc­cess of our past dances this year and the constant re­quests of our Verhovay friends for another dance, this “Mardi Gras Dance” has been planned. The proposed fun frolic is to be held at McKeesport's most beautiful and spacious lallroom, in the Penn-McKee Hotel. The ball is to be held on Tuesday, November 9, 1937 and to start at 8:45 P.M. Misses Margaret Biro and Ethyl Halas are co-chairman of the dance and have named the following committees to aid them. The publicity is being handled by that capa­ble pair, Irene Pasternak and Alexander Goydan. Gus Nagy, Stephen Poliak, James Benedect, and Frank Toth are tjie floor committee. Wiliam Ferency and Julius Lenhart were selected for 11 h e orchestra committee. Helen Goydan, Elizabeth Kanyusik, Gene Hirsh, and Elmer Halas will be the re­ception committee. The group in charge of tickets are: Emma Poromb, Alex­ander Goydan, Ann Bogi, Margaret Dudash, John Sa­bo and Ernest Debreczenyi. For this gala occasion, Marty Schramm and his or­chestra have been selected to play. Marty has the most outstanding orchestra in the Pittsburgh district. He has played long-term en­gagements in Pittsburgh’s most exclusive night spots. The district’s smart set have danced to his distinctive rhythm many times. Now the Verhovay Branch 395 has secured, by special en­gagement, this outstanding band to play for its “Mardi Gras Dance.” Branch 395 of McKees­port invites all its fellow V erhovay members and their friends to an enjoyable night of dancing and frolic at their “Mardi Gras Dance.” Julius Lenart, Br. SOTAK VERHOVAY MEMBER APPOINTED TO OHIO STATE PAROLE BOARD The members of branch 367 at Cleveland are jubi­lant over the honor bestow­ed upon one of its members, Mr. Frank Sotak. During the past week, Governor Martin L. Davey, a brother Verhovay member, appoint­ed Mr. Sotak to serve on the parole board in Colum­bus, Ohio. The members of branch 367 have lately been confronted with simi­lar happy surprises. A happy coincidence in this, that the donor and donee of the appointment are both Verhovay members. Mr. Sotak is a representative of the Slovak group in cos­mopolitan Cleveland and is well konwn to all Cleveland­ers for his civic, cultural and political activities. Cleveland Hungarians, particularly Cleveland Ver­hovay members join with their Slovak neighbors in wishing Mr. Sotak and his family the best of luck and happiness. Congratulations, Mr. Sotak, brother Verho­vay member. Mr. August Bessenyey, who was responsible for Mr. Sotak’s membership into the Verhovay wishes to add his personal felicitations to Mr. Sotak by wishing him suc­cess in his new field of en­deavor. The members of branch 367 thank Governor Martin L. Davey for his considera­tion of Mr. Sotak and con­gratulate him for selecting such a high caliber man for such a responsible task.
