Pongrácz Erzsébet: The Cinemas of Budapest - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1998)
ly cinema of respectable standards. Its name was changed to Kinizsi in 1959, to be renamed Blue Box upon becoming member of the ART Cinema Chain. Several directors have even chosen the cinema as a location for their films. Elemér Káldor’s 1993 film, for example, itself called Blue Box, is set almost exclusively in the cinema and the adjoining garden, which will provide future historians of the cinematographic art with a curious visual document of an era. As a member of the ART Chain, the Blue Box undertakes to re-run Hungarian films playing nowhere else in town as well as to briefly put on quality box-office past hits from abroad. In addition, there are club screenings on special interest and historical themes. The cinema’s small video library and bookshop offer cinematographic and literary material for club members and the public alike. 30
